l 1 The flight deck V 1 Division is responsible for handling all aircraft on the flight deck This includes spotting and directing aircraft and operation of aircraft handling equip ment such as tractors and cranes Also included in this division is the Crash and Salvage crew who are responsible for flight deck firefighting rescue clearing flight deck crashes and the upkeep of certain crash and firefighting equipment The flight deck officer IS said to be a man who knows a great deal about very little and goes along knowing more and more about less and less until he finally knows practically everything about nothing The flight deck chief, on the other hand is a man who knows very little about a great deal and keeps knowing less and less about more and more until he finally knows practically nothing about everything The flight deck PO starts out knowing practically everything but ends up knowing nothing due to his association with the chief and officers A yellow shirt knows nothing to begin with and usually stays that way because he refuses to associate with anyone with brains A blue shirt is in such minority and so surrounded by the above so called wheels that he isn t even worth discussing T ?'V V l , BOTTOM ROW L-R, AN M. The mission of the V-2 division is to maintain and operate Ticonderoga's aircraft launch and recovery equipment such as the catapults, arresting gear and the visual land- ing aids. The division is divided into three crews, catapult, arresting gear and PLATfLens crew. The catapult crew is charged with the operation and maintenance of the two C-11 launching steam catapults and their associated jet blast deflectors. The arresting gear crew is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the barricade and four arresting gear engines and associated equipment. The PLATfLens crew operates and maintains the visual landing aid and closed circuit pilot landing aid training television system fPLATj. The crews are qualified and occasionally called upon to assist in clearing flight deck crashes and participate in fighting flight deck fires.
