For eleven years, you have strived and labored to achieve this goal. You have met obligations and made necessary adjustments to reach this event- ful period of your life. Our American ideals require you to continue upon a successful path, whose glow will be determined by the living rays of your own life. Four years of your school days have been marred by world turmoil and great conflict. Peace again reigns throughout most of the world, the longevity of which rests upon your shoulders. Preserve it for the ones who have dedicated their lives to the ideals which we hold so dear. May you follow in the footsteps of your predecessors and preserve the traditions of our American way of life. For the time I have known you and worked with you, I have gained great admiration and respect for you as young men and women of clean mind and thought. I am proud to be one of the many who have worked with and guided you. Sincerely, . The position of Coach was filled very neatly by Bernard Birkelbach. Those in the usual starting line-up were Starnes, Teggeman, Lieberum, Dickey, Klotz, Ribbeck, Scott, Scruggs, Dowell, Rosen- blad and Hopson. 'Subs' which Showed up regularly were Kuhl, Wilde, Caesar and Richter. The Tigers started their season with a game with Smithville at Smithville: when the horn blew, the game ended with a dead-- locked score of 0-0. The next contest was with a team that had not appeared on the Tiger circuit for a good many years. The Tigers fell to a superior Bastrop '11' to the tune of 13-0 loss. The next week Hutto forfeited their game, so the Tigers met Sharp on Tiger territory. Once again the Tigers were thwarted in their attempts at victory and were handed a 13-0 defeat. The next week was open but the Tigers used it in good, hard practice sessions in preparation for Thorndale. This game was a thriller and a heart breaker for only in the last seconds did Thorndale score the winning touchdown, thereby taking away the Tiger's chance to retaliate. When the Tigers went to Rockdale they met more Tigers and as you would expect, it was a good game with Thrall coming out on the long end. The last game of the season was played at Giddings. The Tigers came out on the short end of a 19-6 score. This was the last game for Teggemann, Starnes, Lieberum, Hopson and Dowell. After the end of the season had come and stock had been taken, Ribbeck was found to have made all-district center, while in the 19-T defeat Thrall handed Rockdale, Tommy Starnes made the three touchdowns which put T. H. S. on top. 1 L 2 4 5 5 3 S 5 i! GIRLS BASKETBALL MHS. BOYS' AND GIRLS' BASKETBALL AND UTHER SPORTS ' During the 1946 and 1947 Basketball season, Coaches Modesett and Birkelbach trained their girls and boys patiently and effect- ively in the rules of the game and the good sportsmanship in- volved. Both feel that their efforts were amply repaid by the showings their teams gave on the courts wherever they played. Mrs. Modesett's girls played a total of twenty-five games, losing only six of these. They placed second in an invitation tournament, and came out second in the entire district. Mr. Birkelbach's team played a total of twenty-seven games and lost twelve. This team participated in three invitation tournaments, winning a consolation, a third and a second. The boys placed second in their district. In County Meet Baseball, Thrall entered five events and placed first in four of them. -These first places were: ill Grammar School Boys, coached by Mr. Bachmeyerg C27 High School Junior Girls, coached by Mr. Pyle: C37 High School Junior Boys, coached by Mr. Smith and C47 High School Senior Girls, coached by Mrs. Modesett. This meet was held at Round Rock on March 21, 1947. On March 28, the boys track meet was held at Georgetown. The boys came out second in this meet. At the present time, Mrs. Modesett is working with her girl's Volleyball Team. So far, these girls have won five games and lost two. In literary events at the County Meet at Round Rock on March 29, Thrall placed first in Declamation, Shorthand and Spelling. Thrall placed third in typing. 1? ? ,L ' f -si - 2 Q G 3 Q VOLLEYBALL First Row: Svadlenak, Nolte, Simmons, Buetikofer, Jenkins, 'x PoseY, Hendricks in-REBS?
