Girl Gymnasts’ Season Thornton's Outstanding girl gymnast Karen Thompson went to state on unevens. She was also the team's high-point girl with a score of 360.85. The team record was scored against North Glenn with a 143.90 score. This year's record holders are: Floor Exersizes-Janelle Ecker 8.4 Uncvens-Karen Thompson 8.2 Vault-Robin Swanson 8.35 Beam-Robin Swanson 8.1 There were outstanding efforts by Robin Swanson on Beam and Vault, and by Karen Thompson on unevens. They each took second place in league in their event and were selected to All Conference. 160

The 1978-1979 Boys' Varsity Basketball Squad, coached by Mr. Boyd Pickens, had a disappointing record of 4-14, but they were a very competitive team. With only senior letterman, Dave Schell, and junior letterman, Dick Jones, returning from the pre- vious year, the lack of experience resulted in many close losses. Eleven of the fourteen losses were de- cided by seven points or less. Despite the poor re- cord, the scrappy Trojan cagers continued to im- prove, and, with the efforts of seniors Tim Kubik. Glenn Boychuk, Mike Keefe, and juniors. Mike Wha- len, Lyle Wells, and Orlando Vigil, they beat Mullen and lost to 1 ranked Regis by two points, late in the season. The Junior Varsity team, coached by Mr. Mike Hen- son, showed the same lack of experience with soph- omores Dan Fiala. Kevin Kinnear, Chris Scaggs, and George Montour starting at the end of the year. The Sophomore team, coached by Mr. Stu Ritscher, started slow but finished strongly in the tournament at the close of the season. Cagers Wind Up 162
