ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Ronald William Toland Jr. United States Navy LCDR Ron Toland was born in Tucson, Ari- zona on July 1, 1968. He received his commis- sion as a 1992 graduate from the United States Naval Academy. While at the Naval Academy he received a degree in General Engineering. Following graduation, LCDR Toland attended Division Officer School in Newport, RI and then reported to his first command, USS MAHLON S. TISDALE CFFG-275, in San Diego in May 1993. While onboard his first tour included 22 months as Damage Control Assis- tant, and 16 months as Ordnance Officer. LCDR Toland earned his Engineering Officer of the Watch and Surface Warfare Qualifications while completing his Division Officer Tour. After completing his first sea tour, LCDR Toland attended the Naval Postgraduate School enrolling in the Undersea Warfare Curriculum and earning a Master of Science in Acoustical Engineering. Completing his shore assignment, LCDR Toland attended Department Head School in Newport, RI, and follow on schools through the AEGIS Pipeline before reporting to USS MAHAN CDDG-721 as the Chief Engineer in September 1999. After serving on USS MAHAN for 19 months, LCDR Toland accepted orders to USS THORN CDD-9885 as Chief Engineer for a second tour Department Head. LCDR Tolandis personal awards include three Navy Commendation Medals, Navy Achieve- ment Medal and various other unit and service awards. LCDR T oland is married to the former Tammy L. Lamothe of Waldorf, MD. Combined they have two children: Rebecca Ann - 5 and Alexander William - 3. 419 I S :film I
