The trip through the canal, although grueling, provided an interesting look at the Egyptian country side. At 0900 on the 14th of March, THORN passed through Port Suez and began the trip North. 81 y

Red Sea - MIP OPS THORN spent February and most of March operating in the northern Red Sea as part of DESERT STORM with Multi-National Forces enforcing U.N. sanctions against Iraq. While in the Red Sea, THORN served as flagship for Commander, Destroyer Squadron TWENTY-TWO Com- modore Bulkley. MIP OPS were action packed and featured nearly constant small boat and flight operations. Being DESRON 22 flagship added additional spice as We hosted a Multi-National VIP conference. In all' aspects of MIF OPS, on both sides of the life lines, the THORN team performed flawlessly. I Captain Kelly and Commodore Bulkley show off the Bridge. 50 Cal 's manned and ready. I 1 Commodore Bulkley and Commander, Multi-National For Commodore 'S Cabin.
