V 94 Www W is S Our visit to Porto Vecchio began like any other port visit as the crew prepared it- self to enjoy the hospitality of this quiet French port. That quiet was destined to be short lived however. In the morning of the second day in port, mistral winds built rapid- ly from an earlymorning calm to 60 knotsus- tained winds by 1400. The ship began to drag anchor and was forced to get underway with 68 crewmen ashore on tour. Only heroic efforts by all hands sa ved the ship from being driven on to the rocks. Once free of the Har- bor, the ship weathered the storm well and returned the next day to pick up those left ashore.
