60 DAYS AT SEA! After arriving back in the Med, THORN found herself cruising around for a while. Port visits in Morroco, France and Kalamata, Greece were cancelled, and we spent 2 very long months just sailing back and forth across the big Mediterranean. During this period we all hit Steel Beach for flight deck cook-outs, a few concerts by the new Never In Port Band and the Sixth Fleet Navy Band, and a beauty contest none of us will ever forget. Sponsered by the first class mess, each division picked a man to compete in the lst Annual Miss Sea Queen Beauty Pageant. And what a contest it was! Some called it hilarious and some thought it was ridiculous, but everyone had fun, and it took our minds off the Med for a while. 75
