On 30 August 1981 while participating in the Ocean VenturefMagic Sword North exercises, USS THORN QDD-9885 completed its 1000th safe helo recovery. LT Greg Gillette with copilot LT Dave Jenkins of HSL 32 DET 3imade the milestone landing. In only ten months since receiving its first helo landing in November 1980, THORN has operated with every type helocopter for which it is certified.
