What makes a high school run smoothly? How can it go on and on with never a mishap, never a conflict and never a rogue? Where does the Peace of mind, the all 'round good fellowship, the omnipresent initiative to work and strive for higher goals come from? What keeps the citizenship at its peak at all times, the Sportsmanship to the highest degree and the money coming in? ls it great leadership? ls it universal appeal? ls it money? Can other high schools operate when they are broke? Do students have the same feeling of security and love when in school even though they know the next freight train that comes through town might jar the place of learning into a broken pile of girders and brick-bats? Are they as smiling and unafraid when they calmly walk into a building one of which's stones might mark their graves? Where does all the money for the window panes and other articles come from? ls every school endowed by some multi-millionaire with a fund to pro- vide for stapling machines and screwdrivers that aren't brought back to the office? Does every school in the nation have battlements to protect them from those blackguards, the lguanodons? If the answer to these questions is no, nyet, gha, non or un-unh, the school you represent just isn't up to par with the mag- nifique, the one and only Thomasville High School. The students of T. H. S. are kind, gentle, affectionate and lovely to look upon. They are so tame that you can pet them, if you do so gently, and some of them are so domesti- cated that they will eat right out of your hand. They are recognized all over the country for their neat and conservative dress. Also their posture is such that would astound a yardstick. They never slouch or allow their shoulders to stoop and theyare never, never referred to as "Kats." They are never seen hanging around the drugstore or the Milky- Way, but the library has to run two shifts to take care of the multitude of students that wait for hours to get in. T. H. S. has a public address system but it has long since rusted beyond repair from lack of use. There just doesn't seem to be anything important enough to announce. The students always show the utmost severity and reserve at sport- ing events, with scattered applause when the home team gains a point and a gentle mur- mur when the opponent gains one. ln T. H. S. it is safe to leave your most treasured pos- session in your desk for no-one would even think of looking at it without permission. The athletic teams show great stamina and strength upon the playing field such that can only be attributed to the most exacting rules of health and clean living. The band director has only to enter the rehearsal room for a death-like stilness to descend. ln his dealings with the T. H. S. Band, he has never raised his voice above a mezzo-forte. This is Thomasville High School. The finest in the land. l, as a student of it, can sincerely say to you that there shall never be its equal. Maybe l have exaggerated my description of it to a small extent, but l guess my opinion is understandably biased. lt's been my second home for the last four years.
