" .J florrrnepl to improve Library As the library expands and its needs grow larger, it requires more people to manage it. The school does not employ a full time librarian, therefore, the students are needed to assist the faculty in the maintenance of the library. The Library Club was formed for this purpose. It is composed of students who spend their study hall time as library as- sistants. With the addition of approx- imately 300 new books this year, the librarians were kept busy. Most of the new books arrived with catalogue cards. The cards were placed in the catalogue file, and the books were then processed for the shelves. The books that came without cards required the most work. Three to eight cards per book had to be typed before they could be pro- cessed. After the books were finished, the librarians had continuing responsibilities. They checked books in and out, collected overdue books, and kept the library orderly. There were many books do- nated tothe library during the year. The most valuable ones were a set of 42 volumes on World War ll history donated by ltflr. Trice jackson, and a new set of Britannica Efiyfclri- perlia donated by Dr. Her., y. 7Ol.ilira.'i C 1, ly l . it Li V l if l . This year fifteen members featured many activities including a 50's day, a kangaroo court, a sock hop, game night, and an Appreciation Week. This week included a student, teacher, and a school apprecia- tion day. The Beta Club took fruit baskets and cards to the residents of the Nursing Home at Christmas time. They also gave a party and Val- entines to the residents of the Thomasville Adult Adjustment Center. The main purpose of the club was to make students aware of the im- portance of a good education.
