Sharing their pages are good times and bad times, excitenwnt and boredom, liberty ports and arduous working port calls. Most of all, cruise books capture on paper glinpses of friends, shipnmtes, and our ship. They invariably become sources of satisfaction in the future, reminding us of our days as sailornen and of challenges met and overcome. This cruise book is particularly special, docunwnting as it does the twentieth, and possibly the final, deployment of United States Ship THOMASTON. Despite her age and upcoming deconnussioning, THOMASTON is a fine ship and, through your superb efforts, is ending this first chapter in her career on a high note. Her operational record on this deployment was unexcelledg her performance has set a standard for other newer ships to nmtchg her reputation has never been held in higher stead. The credit is yours and those who have gone before us, it has been an honor for me to have served as your Connmnding Officer for the final weeks of the deploynent. Perhaps one day there will be a THOMASTON reunion. I look forward to seeing you there. Respectfully, John P.
