We practiced hard, played hard, and won hard. Students rushed into the locker room after the last bell rang, quickly changed, and got out on the field for sometimes several hours of grueling practice before, exhausted and worn, they started home with the dayis homework yet to tackle. Whether in individual or team rewards or just plain self-esteem, all those extra hours paid off. Jef- ferson students could and did look back on their performance with pride.
