Knights avenge last year’s loss to Hopewell PRINCE GEORGE-THOMAS DALE Capitalizing on five Royal fumbles and two interceptions, the Knight defense led in a 21-0 trounce over Prince George. Barron Cheatham established the first Knight score ona two-yard run. Steve Noe connected with a pass for six more points. In the closing minutes, Wendell Cheatham tallied the final score. MIDLOTHIAN-THOMAS DALE Motivated by Steve Noe, the Knights trounced Midlothian, 40-6. Thomas Dale scored three times on long yardage runs in the first half. Dale’s final touchdown came on a pass from junior quarterback Ricky Butler to Mark Murphy. The Knight defense held the Trojans to one first down. HOPEWELL-THOMAS DALE Seeking revenge for last year’s 12-6 defeat, Thomas Dale rolled over arch rival Hopewell 37-0. Led by Barron Cheatham and Doug Harris, the Knights compiled 302 yards rushing. Terry Anderson nailed Hopewell’s quarterback three times for long losses in minus yardage for the Devils. DINWIDDIE-THOMAS DALE Thomas Dale preserved its perfect Central District mark by routing winless Dinwiddie, 41-6. Barron Cheatham and Doug Harris combined for 222 yards rushing and four touchdowns. The Knights staged a scoring outburst in the second quarter with 27 points. Dinwiddie tallied on a 12-yard pass. MEADOWBROOK-THOMAS DALE In the rain-soaked Homecoming game, the Knights splashed to a 24-7 victory over the Monarchs. Barron Cheatham and Steve Noe each ran long for touchdowns. Ken Castlebury added three one-point conversions and a field goal. Meadowbrook’s only score was a kickoff return. COLONIAL HEIGHTS-THOMAS DALE Averting an upset in the last two minutes of the game, Thomas Dale overcame Colonial Heights 19-16. Led by John Goodloe, the Knights moved 68 yards in five plays scoring on a pass from Goodloe to Barron Cheatham. Doug Harris scored the initial touchdown with a 79-yard run. MANCHESTER-THOMAS DALE In the final district game of the season, Thomas Dale rolled over Manchester 41-8. Doug Harris led rushing with 220 yards, highest total of the 1970-year, scoring with three long yardage runs. The Lancers scored their only touchdown in the third quarter on a one-yard plunge.
