Left: Marty Murphey; below: Kathy Madison. Rain foils frustrated decorators ‘Raindrops keep falling on my head’ could easily have been the theme for Homecoming 1970. Beginning early in the morning, frustrated decorators jammed bus ramps at Thomas Dale, Chester Intermediate, and Curtis Elementary, and private Chester garages to protect their fragile floats from the storm. Initiating the week with a bonfire, Cheerleaders and the Pep Club members sponsored many Homecoming festivities including a spirit drive and pep rally. Soggy flowers, collapsing frames, mud-splattered posters, and drenched riders characterized homecoming cars circling the field in the precedented pregame parade. Second period chorus captured the prize for best all-around float, while JV Cheerleaders and Keyettes se ized most spirited and most original awards, respectively. 23
Homecoming... a mass of rain soaked umbrellas Rounding the football field in colorful dune buggies, the five princesses greeted the Homecoming crowd for their formal presenfations. Amid confusion over the breakdown of a princess’ buggy, the court splashed across the rain-drenched field anxiously awaiting the announcement of the 1970 Queen. Tearful Mindy Fore accepted her crown and bouquet of roses from Principal J. Wilson Crump and former queen Ann Trice. Mindy reigned over the Homecoming dance featuring the ‘Soul Pushers.’’ The members of her court includ ed Teresa Clemons, Ellen Riondet, Pat Temple, and Vivian Walden.
