Activities fan smoldering spirit to open exuberance Provoked by blaring, reverberating chords and sensual vocalizations, exhilarated dancers gyrated frenetically or embraced and swayed blissfully in the stifling, crowded gymnasium or cafeteria. Shrill feminine shrieks and bursts of applause expressed glee, disappointment, or relief as emcees announced beauty and congeniality titlists. Gentle kidding between students and faculty skyrocketed into skits of biting satire based on personal idiosyncrasies. Theatrical productions proceeded amidst mismanaged mayhem or expertly engineered orderliness to the dismay or delight of audiences. Fiercely competitive candidates, suggestive posters, and unexpected run-off voting converted traditionally tiresome SCA election campaigns into enthralling contests. Tremors of vitality exploded in a constant quake of vivacity which roused the dormant and engrossed the effervescent as it shook the personalities and property of Thomas Dale. Wendell Cheatham and Yvonne Brown perform the “pop- corn” to the Escorts’ beat at the SCA-sponsored Geek Week dance.

Seating segregation heightens excitation Exploding in a burst of screams and cheers, Knights united in a unique swell of energy. Pep ral- lies provided an inspiration for the animated release of loud and enthusiastic shouts. Incorporating humor into the fiery sessions, cheer- leaders presented skits imitating and exaggerating up- coming matches between Knights and opposing teams. Bestowals of nicknames and comical awards to de- serving basketball players provoked deriding remarks from spectators. Urging each class cheering section to “yell loud- er,” cheerleaders induced a competitive spirit between grade levels which spilled into inter-scholastic conten- tions. Daring cheers chanted by Confirmed Bachelors of Thomas Dale instigated grandstand censorship. Susan Poole narrates a basketball pep-rally skit which re- lates the precarious plight of “Knights in Lancerland.” “Steal it, steal it” chant indefatigable JV cheerleaders as they spur the Knights to victory over an opposing team.
