Construction and Change Traditions change from time to time just like the seasons change from year to year. Since Thomas Carr Howe High School was opened in the fall of 1938, many traditions have been established and many have been changed. From 450 students and a one-wing building to an enrollment of 2,400 and a struc- ture now consisting of four additions, Howe has come a long way from its original intentions. Violet Queen, Violet Hill, the Brown and Gold, and the Turnabout all have been traditions at Howe. Some are lost and the ones that still remain are very much changed because of time. Homeroom is no longer a part of a stu- dent ' s life. The Spring Pageant was erased because of the construction of the stadium. Many student activities have been lost because of apathy and expansion. This was a special year for the coun- try and the community, however— it was a year of history and celebration and a time to look into our own begin- ning. With many old activities brought to life and some new ones established, another year is folded into the past and plans to move on are underway. A. Continued growth has marked Howe ' s history. B.
