Fire-up for Victory The managers and trainers are highly regarded according to the athletic department. With the help these people have provided, the athletes and coaches are left with the valuable practice time they need. Fire-Up for Victory! This is the cheerleaders ' motto. Getting the student body involved actively at school sport functions ranks as one of the most important goals for our cheerleaders. Long hours of prepa- ration go into their work. In addition to afternoon practices many of the girls attend summer camps, varsity at the University of Kentucky and re- serve at Ball State. Varsity cheer- leaders also lend their talents to the freshman cheerleaders and teach them cheers and chants.

Hard Won Battles— Close Defeats On September 8, 1943, a tradition was started at Howe which just com- pleted its thirty-second season. Mr. Samuel Kelley, now retired, issued uni- forms to about 70 men who broke into four intramural teams. And that is how football became a part of Howe life. In September of 1975 tradition was carried on as Coach Stewart selected his varsity squad for the season. Rush- ing was a big factor this year with ju- nior James Fair breaking the all-time Howe record and the team gaining an impressive 2,191 yards. Ray Littleton and Don Hughett both had good pass- ing records and the defensive line-up produced one of the best tackling records at Howe. To the fans the year could be summed up as a season of hard won battles and close defeats with the completed record of 6-4. iSi ¥ ff o g 50
