WILLCOX AND SEGAL RUSH THE GOAL 1954 SOCCER REVIEW Back on home grounds and entertaining an old rival Trinity Pawling The Big Red Booters received their sixth straight setback of the campaign 3 0 For the hnal contest of the year Gunnery engaged an always tough team from Hopkins Grammar November IO and lost 5 1 Hopkins scored once in the opening frame hen twice in the third quarter The home team s only score came when right wing Bob Ebers passed to Murphy who deftly headed the ball into the opponents goal Anderson and Willcox were outstanding in limit ing the opposition who were constantly pressing the Red and Gray cage to yust three goals At a post season meeting Dennis Murphy the teams high scorer was elected to captain the 1955 team. While posting an unimpressive one win seven loss season record the Gun- nery Soccer Varsity had more power and ability than this record shows. Time after time in season play the Red and Gray forwards pushed the ball deep into enemy territory only to be thwarted by the making of countless near goals. The team simply lacked that extra spark that makes the difference between al- most success and successes with good prospects for next year in Martin Abel Dennis Murphy, Sam Rakdham, and Chris de Guigne. r I l MURPHY CHATFIELD SCHERMAN ANDERSON WILLCOX
