FREEMAN 195 5 TENNIS REVIEW Charley Sm1th racked up valuable s1ngles vnctornes in the second fifth posntrons wmle 1n the doubles Herzlg and Smith chnched the win for the Big Red netmen with an exciting three set second doubles victory The Hotchklss J V then defeated the cocky netmen rn a 6 3 upset on our own courts Day Pete Sm1th and Herzrg were singles wlnners though rn no other matches could the team score another wm South Kent was agam shut out by The Gunnery net squad 7 O the Big Red stattrng a long undefeated strlng at th1s point The Red and Gray Tennrs Team then overpowered a strong Berkshire squad 5 2 PeteSm1th Day and Herzxg at one two three respectnvely defeated their opponents as d1d John Freeman at the fifth slot The first doubles team accounted for Gunnery s fifth tally beanng out Berkshnre s duo rn a close match Tafts JV was next to be overcome by the Big Red contingent by a 7M IM score Pete Smith Day Herzng Abel and Charley Sm1th were singles vrctors the first two doubles teams also tallied for the Red and Gray but the third duet s match was tamed out The net squad then met stiff oppos1t1on on Canterburys courts finally managing to eeke out a 4 3 v1ctory Pete Smith Day and Herzlg again downed thexr opponents IH snngles and Herzxg and Sm1th scored the decldmg polnt rn a hard fought first doubles match Gunnerys Tennls Team ended a very successful season with a sparkling 9 0 shutout over HOpklHS Grammar as john Herzlg and Pete Smith completed thelr perfect singles records At the team party Pete Smith was elected Captarn for the 1956 campaign, the appointment of next year s manager was postponed until next sprrng li!
