4, J JOHNSON HOUCK HUGHES 1955 CREW REVIEW Hughes at bow and Johnny Schwabacher doing the coxmg won by an easy ten lengths The Third Boat came 1n six lengths in the lead On Senior Weekend the first three boats kept their record intact by beating Choate over the Mg mile course on Lake Waramaug The FIISI and Seconds took their races by three and two lengths respectively The Third Boat stroked by Norm H1nes with B111 Scherman at three Henry Rankln at two Frank Mllll ket- at bow and 1m McKernon at cox won by one length The final race of the regular season was with Salisbury the following Saturday May 70 Trying for an undefeated season the First Boat won by IM? lengths The Second Boat triumphed over the previously unbeaten Salisbury Seconds by two lengths and the Th1rds won by M a length Saturday May Z8 was the b1g racing ev nt the New England Champion Sh1PS at Lake Qu1ns1gamund 1n Worcester Massachusetts The Gunnery s ma1n competition seemed to be Exeter who was also entering the regatta undefeated In the first race of the day the Second Boat won 1ts heat over Choate by Mg of a length The First Boat won IIS heat from Exeter by open water In the afternoon finals the Seconds won over Exeter Sahsbury and Choate in the time of 4 48 The F 1rst Boat won IIS race and the New England Four Oared Shell Championshlp by IM lengths During the season the crew squad 1nclud1ng Fourth and Fifth Boats de feated 45 boats and lost to one Tom Hanan was elected Captam for the third t1me and Coach Beebe s post season smile shows promise of another great crew season next year.
