1 i lxll5 'i!F -i Tk B' A lis ' 1 w WYCKOFF SLIDES SAFELY AGAINST CANTERBURY 1955 BASEBALL REVIEW nery diamond Dillon allowed only four hits but once more the Red and Gray did not have their batting eyes lust two hits being produced Four days later May 18 the Buckmen received one of their worst trouncings of the season at the hands of Berkshire 12 4 on the loser s field Four different pitchers took the mound for the Red and Gray yielding a total of 13 hits May 20 The Gunnery dropped its second 2 1 decision of the year this time to a visiting Wooster squad Hall went the route for the home team allowing but one earned run in seven innings. Th following Monday May 23 the Buckmen played host to Salisbury losing their third decision by a on, run margin in four games. Jack Griggs pinch-hit grand slam home run accounted for all of the Red and Gray s scoring in the 5-4 defeat. May 25 the team traveled to Windsor to oppose Loomis the eventual winners of the Connecticut Preparatory School League dropping this game by an 8-3 score. For six innings Hall held the home team to one hit while retiring seventeen batters in succession. In the seventh frame however Loomis tallied six runs on as many hits. Williams and Porter each whacked a triple for the losers. Two days later The Gunnery w on their first game of the year as they con- quered a visiting Canterbury squad by a 6-4 margin. Williams two-run homer provided the winning margin. Miller and Dillon took on the pitching chores while getting two hits apiece. Miller got the credit for the win. After defeating the Alumni by a 5-2 score the Red and Gray travelled to Watertown where they closed out the season by losing their fifth league game in a 5-3 decision to Taft. Hall went the distance for the Big Red. Martin Miller and Williams led The Gunnery's hitting attack with three safeties each. Although the teams record was a poor 2-13, there were definite signs of better potential. Halls fine pitching, Williams, Wyckoff's and Miller's hitting were outstanding.
