Ninety-ei MASTERBONE 8 hz ADAMS DENTS THE TP NETS VARSITY HOCKEY REVIEW The Gunnery Vars1ty Hockey team of 1955 sported three returnmg letter men ln Captarn Ken Adams Andy Masterbone and Dwnght Mlller Coach Golembeske asststed by Mr Wrllcox worked and shaped the team whnch tn cluded several newcomers rnto game form tn two weeks Practrce and contests were arded Lmmeasurably by the presence of near perfect 1ce throughout the season anuary 17 opened the season for The Gunnery team as they met Canter bury away and resulted nn a loss for the v1s1tors 8 I Canterbury downed Gunnery wlth l1ttle trouble breakmg 1nto a brg lead rn the openrng mrnutes Strong teamwork was demonstrated by George Gund and jack Gnggs but the Light Blues speed was too much for the rnexperlenced Gunnery team Gun nery s only goal was shot rnto the enemy nets by newcomer Curt Gary The Red and Gray played 1ts first game at home january 15 thoroughly trounclng the vrsltlng Sufheld squad 7 I Curt Gary and Ted Silver opened up a 2 0 lead rn the hrst pertod Then Ken Adams Curt Gary Andy Masterbone Dwrght Mrller and Buzz Morley accounted for the remarnder of the home score as the team s fast breaks and good pass1ng seemed rnvmclble The defense work headed by Goalle Tom Wood was effectnve tn subdumg all enemy attacks except one nn the closmg mmutes of play The Gunnery squad traveled to Mrllbrook January 19 to defeat the home team 2 I Lmesmen Adams and Gary accounted for the Big Red tallnes wxth Dwrght Mrller assnstmg Gary s shot Mrllbrook s lone goal came ln the second perlod after Gunnery had got off to 1ts early lead On the 22 of January The Gunnery on home 1ce played IIS fourth game of the campaign and bowed to Trmrty Pawlmg 4 2 The Blue and Gold played well and scored throughout the game desprte the work of veteran defensemen Jack Grrggs and Tom Hanan who skrllfully thwarted many opposmg thrusts Gunnery s two goals were scored by Captarn Ken Adams and Dwxght Mrller In therr next encounter january 26 the pucksters fell to a superror South Kent team 7 7 Ken Adams two goals rn the second perrod of play proved of no avarl except to sustarn the sprrrt and keep the team rn the scorlng column Gunnery goahe jack Grrggs threw off 35 attempts as the South Kent offen slve proved all too powerful for the Red and Gray defensemen Gund and Masterbone.
