MUNSON TURNBULL PHELON 1953 FOOTBALL REVIEW The 1955 Vars1ty football team posted a two win one tie and four loss scoreboard However only one opponent Trinity Pawlmg scored more than thirteen points They scortd nineteen points With two returning lettermen Coach Beebe had one week to mold a team from these and new material before the opener with Wooster in Dan bury October 3 The forward line paced by Captain Ed Munson Jim Turn bull and Dwight Miller kept the Wooster defense to a minimum Wooster annexed both its touchdowns on pass intercepnons adding one extra pomt The second half showed a reluvenated Gunnery team score on an aerial from Boone to Phelon, leaving the final score in favor of Wooster, 13-6. The following Saturday The Gunnery met a Pomfret contingent on Barnes Memorial Field. In the second period, Boone fired to Phelon and the home team drew first blood. The extra point was wide as The Gunnery went ahead 6-0. Shortly after, Fred Sessa gunned a bullet pass to Larry Downs who carried the ball into the end zone. jack Dillon split the uprights and the final count read 13-O. Both ends, Larry Downs and john Hoben, and guard Dave Miller displayed excellent offensive and defensive play. 46
