CLASS POEM OF '54 At last we bid high school good bye We want to laugh and we want to cry We've surely had a lot of fun But we are glad the works all done. Kenneth Richards is just right clever As class president he's our best ever We never see him wear a frown He very often plays the clown. Marvin is Vice President of our class We are all sure that he will pass In basketball he can really play He may become a star some day. Here's Bill Babcock, we know he can Be as good a coach as any man He's been our treasurer and secretary And life with Bill is always Merry, Helen has been our office girl The boys all think she's quite a pearl She's very efficient as everyone knows And will be a success wherever she goes. Our Jean Learning is ambitious too The work she can do would astonish you If you go to the hospital in Chanute You'll find her a nurse so trim and cute. Eugene Shockley, the school girls dream The life of Shockley is quite a scream But we think he soon will settle down With a little gal from a neighboring town. Allen Erbe was good on the basketball team He always kept us on the beam. If all of our players could be so clever We wouldn't get beat, no not ever, One sweet little lady is Ada Mae, She doesn't have much time for play She works in the drug store to make dough Soon to beauty school she'll go. Florence is our dress designer We think she'll rank among the finer She'll fix up dresses for a while Then step out in the latest style. Nelda is so neat and sweet Her friendliness is hard to beat We think she's cute and clever too In everything she tries to do. Our musical classmate is Mary Jean She is a lovely blond haired queen She likes all the girls and boys as well Which she likes best is hard to tell, Gary Hastings likes girls too We don't know what he's going to do He may look around as much as he can And end up being a carpenter man, Evelyn is smart and clever too She's very efficient I'm telling you She does her work with head so cool And always goes to Sunday School. David Middleton lives in the house on the hill He has corn to plant and wheat to drill A husky farmer so big and strong Waiting for the right girl to come along, Kenneth Barsch is our big tall man We'll look up to him when ever we can He's the boy that will take the cake In a motor boat out on a lake. Patricia Glades is pretty too She really shines in a style review Once she was our basketball Queen Her dark eyes made the captain dream. Charlott's songs are a pleasant sound She's a handy Miss to have around I guess she too will be a nurse If she doesn't take Bill for better or worse Leola Holtzman is another brain To be a school teacher she will train, For student council we chose her name We knew she'd be good at any game. I'm Christine Anderson, last on the line And about to run down on this writing of rhyme My crystal ball is failing me too So I guess I'll leave the rest to you, Swan song for the Class of fifty-four We'll soon pass out of the school house door, We'll see each other now and then But 'twill never be the same again.
