Band Honors Pegg Hughes Surrounded by members of the Texico High School Band forming a heart, Peggy Hughes, sophomore, was crowned as Band Sweetheart 1964 in February. Joe Patterson, president of the band council, escorted Peggy who was crowned by Wanda Eshleman, sweet- heart 1963. Chorus Sings on Man Occasions Marching into a darkened auditorium, carrying lighted candles, the 30 members of the chorus set the mood for the beautiful Christmas program which they gave. They sang for Rotary Club and gave a spring musical. Don Chand- ler made all-state chorus. Members are-front row, Darlene Bell, Marlene Bell, Ella Mae Brown, Mamie Autrey, Ellen Caillouet, Peggy Hughes, Pam Fitz, Sarah Walker, Millie Autrey, Kay Bush, and Carolyn Campbell. F.F.A. Boys Top Records Mr. Eddie West, advisor, was a very busy person during the fair. Texico F.F.A. boys broke all records at the Curry County Fair to the tune of about 357,000 from the stock sale and prize money. The boys earned 12 championship ribbons, 14 first places, 5 second places, 4 third places, and three fourth places. They got first place on their fair booth featuring a model corral showing how a large number of cattle may be handled ef- fectively with one or two men. Top boy was Gary Skaggs with S212 in prize money. He won first and second on Hereford steers and first on a Chester White gilt. Prize Money Rolled in Fast i il f .lf I bu David Duncan pla c e s first with Hereford 11. Johnny Burford receives two firsts and a third on Hampshire barrows. CPicture shown to the right.D
