Wolverines Take Second in District Wolverines--Gary Skaggs, Roy Wall, manager: Emmitt Autrey, Ronny Richardson, Tom Rickstrew, Lonnie and Ronnie Curry, Joe Patterson, Allen Hill, Micky Lofton, Mike Spearman, and Wayne Hudnal. hs Lu. Fighting hard, the Texico Wolverines went down in defeat against the Grady team in the District Tournament by a score of 8-3 to take second place. ln the first game of the tournament, the Wol- verines downed the Dora Coyotes, 15-3 in a fairly easy game. In the second game the boys went on to make things just as one-sided by beating the Elida boys, 14-4. Then in the third game, the boys bowed to Grady 8-3 in a hard fought game, to lose the cup. The Wolverines had a season record of 7 wins and 2 losses. Allen Hill stands in the on-deck circle as he Seated on the ground are Emmitt Autrey, Tom Rickstrew, Bill prepares to go up and slug out a hit. Jr. Hi gh Boys ----- ---Compile Good Records The Jr, High boys had a good season this year by compiling records of 9-5 and 7-3. The ninth grade boys made a grand total of 482 points to 436 from their opponents, averaging 34 1X2 points a game, The Eighth grade team scored 329 points this season to 233 by their opponents making an average of 33 points per game. The Eighth grade won 66 per cent of the games while the fresh- men won 64 per cent. The Jr. High teams also won first pl ac e in the Farwell invita- tional t o ur n a me nt, and third in the Little Fox tournament. Coach Johnny Green and his Eighth g rade team- Ricky Stanley, Manuel M a rtine z , Doug A utr ey , Allen Breitenbach, Larry Combs, Junior Ortiz, Lynn Hughes, Rodney Lacewell, Roddy J Pearce, Coy Ethridge and Tommy Beavers, Cheerleaders-Brenda Cathey, Kathy Stone Gilda Cathey, Pam Roberts, and Yolanda McDaniel. The mascot is Jan Kathy. This was an anxious moment for the team and spectators. Girls Eliminate Rivalsg Take Second in Tourney With the fine pitching of Sue Starbuck, a powerful hitting attack, and g ood field ing , the Texico Whirlwinds took s e c o n d in the District Softball Tournament. They won a victory for themselves when they beat one of the best teams in the district, the Grady Broncos, with a close score of 7-6, in their first game of the tournament. ln the second game of the tournament, the Whirl- winds were beaten by the Melrose Buffaloes, 10-6. Sue Starbuck comes to home base for another point. l Vivian Duncan tags up a little late to put out Kathy Frazier at third base. Millie Autrey slides in to third base safely. 65
