He registered voters, campaigned, and voted for his candi- date. Tech ' s stu- dent-dorm ratio reached a percentage where the dorm could afford to allow juniors as well as seniors to move off campus. Gaston Hall made a new concept in on-campus living a reality as apart- ments were made available. Memorial Circle restrictions reached a new extreme with the ban on the traditional Carol of Lights. In the spring the Vietnam War grinded to an unsteady halt and prisoners of war touched home soil. Inefficient poll procedures and low voter turnout proved senate elections a farce as student interest steadily declined with each recalled election date. The year reflected apathy over involvement as many campus events were met with meager response. The Life section of La Ventana attempted to capture major aspects of campus life by covering activities, scheduled events, and everyday occurrences. The effectiveness of the section depends both on the photography and the way it was tied together. This year major emphasis was placed on spring. Every- one felt the arrival of spring as the campus underwent a transformation reacting against the harshness of a long winter (see cover, pp. 24-26, 42-43). My thanks go to the photogra- phers and all who became the subjects of the pictures. Life 23
