THE STUDENTS OF TEXAS SENIOR HIGH PRESENT THE 1954 TIGER FAMILY ALBUM P FOREWORD The 1954 Tiger Annual Staff wishes to present the "Tiger Family Album." May this album preserve the many happy memories that you have had during this past year. Actually the faculty and students of our high school are our family, working and playing together. Although each of our paths may travel to the far corners of the world, our heartstrings will always reach back to our high school family. I I I Page 2 DEDICATION Mrs. Carroll C. Crane If anyone is to be called the "godmother" of our Tiger Family Album, we, the 1954 Tiger Annual Staff, feel that Mrs. Carroll C. Crane should hold that honor. Despite the numerous protests and the obstinacy of Mrs. Crane, we have complacently ignored her howls and have dedicated our annual to her. Not only as sponsor of the Student Council, Senior Class, and the Annual, but also as a teacher and friend, she has taken the most genuine interest in the students of Texas Senior High. Although time passes and years go by, the influence and guidance of Mrs. Crane will always be remembered by the graduating students of 1954. We know she will continue to lend a helping hand to all those who pass her way. Page 3 THE TIGER Leonora Anderson Editor-in-Chief Mrs. Carroll C. Secretary-Registrar Dr. H. W. Stilwell f Superintendent i Granddaddy of the Whole Family k 2 wit Mrs. Virginia Lynch Typist The theme of the 1953-1954 Texarkana, Texas, High School Annual is an unusually happy one. It is in fact the most stimulating and inspiring theme that has come to my attention. If the Texarkana High School can be one family with faculty and stu- dents working together in harmony and with deep respect one for the other and particularly with keen observance of the varying personalities in the faculty and in the student body, then indeed is the High School fortunate. My most sincere wish is that this Annual may inspire all of you to strive toward the acceptance of such a name. I would be the hap- piest superintendent in Texas to be thought of as the Granddaddy of the Whole aggregate family of the High School, composed of what I sincerely believe to be the finest, most conscientious teachers in the land and the most lovable and cooperative students in any High School in the World. My congratulations to the Annual Staff for choosing such a happy theme for the Annual. Mrs. Elizabeth Tapp ' '. fm. "Q: " 1 N- ' 'r"'-.U pi, gf - 1 - ' ' ff 5531.4 ' s I ,i, D K .v 4 .F f M. ,L ,vc . The game was climaxed by a 62-yard punt return by Bobby Bledsoe for the first touchdown. It proved a good dedication for the new Tiger Stadium. The next week fumbles and mistakes gave the Tigers their first taste of defeat by Little Rock, 13-7. Gresham drove for the only touch- down for the Bengals. Moffatt sparked the team to a 55-21 victory over Tyler by his wizardly ball-handling and beautiful passing. The next week the Baytown Ganders flew down to invade the Tiger Den. The score was deadlocked at 6 and 6, when in the third quarter, lanky Carter Williams came through to intercept a Baytown pass and to race 55 yards for the game- winning touchdown. The first week of conference play found the Tigers engaged in a 0-0 battle with Lufkin until the last period when Carter Williams gathered in a pass on the 5-yard line and galloped on over for the only touchdown. The Bengals remained the top team in AAA by defeating Nacogdoches 28-7. Gresham, McAlis- ter, Foster, and Swanger picked up most of the yardage on the ground for the Tigers. The Tigers, led by Brooks Fowler on the de- fense, who covered three fumbles to set up three touchdowns, defeated Marshall 33-0. The Myersmen, after a tough start, rambled over Longview 27-7. James Moffatt tossed a long pass to Carter Williams for a 65-yard touchdown play. With only one game in the way of the State playoffs, the Tigers lost a heartbreaker to Kilgore 13-7. Gresham galloped 20 yards for the only touchdown. The Tigers, would-be game-winning touchdown on Moffatt's quarterback sneak was called back because of a so-called clipping penalty. Although the Tigers did not win district, they ended the season with a good record of 8 wins and 2 losses.
