Three years seems like an age, but as we look back over our three years in Texas High, we might well ask, Where have they gone? None of us are the same as we were when we entered this hall of learning, and we fully realize that the future will produce even greater changes in our lives. Each of us likes to think of the past and dream of the future, but it is today that our lives are being formed-it is today that will determine what we did yesterday, as to- morrow will determine what we are doing today. We hope that the i952 Tiger will bring the mem- ories of the past and the dreams of the future into the vision ofthe present, for they are walking hand in hand today. 'cation We of the staff wish to dedicate the l952 Tiger to one of the most outstanding men in our com- munity, one who has served the schools of this vicinity Ioyally cmd honestly for thirty-two years. He is a man of small stature, but one with a large heart-a man who has faithfully and efficiently executed his duties to his schools, his church, and his community. He is one who has lived a life of service and one who has set a shining example for each of us to observe in our efforts to obtain success -a man who is known to all as the Superintendent of Public Schools, Mr. Henry W. Stilwell. The Student Body Texas Senior High School Texarkana, Texas Officially and personally it gives me great pleasure to have this oppor- tunity to express congratulations and thanks to the students of Texas High School. The congratulations are truly in order because of the many achieve- ments of the students in the various enterprises-athletics, band, music, dramatics, assembly programs, student council. lt just seems to me that every time the students undertake any enterprise at all, the enterprise reflects credit both upon the participants and the school. Any thanks are due to the loyal young men and young women in the school. It is a real privilege, a real honor, to have the opportunity to work with them. Sincerely, rin ipal MR. B. B. LAWSON, B.S., M.A. The Student Body Texas Senior High School Texarkana, Texas We have had another profitable and successful year in annuals of our high school. Numbers of you have worked hard to make the school better, and have brought honor and praise to yourselves and higher standing to the already fine records of the school. We say farewell to each senior who is not to be in this school next year with a sincere wish for a continuation of a happy and useful life. To those students who will be in school next year, our earnest desire is for the best and happiest year in your school life. Our ap- preciation goes to you for any help and co-operation in the past and a wish that all will continue to grow and work so that this school will more nearly fill its place in the community and help to prepare us for a more abundant life in the service of our Nation and our God. Season Summary: The green, inexperienced Tigers, having only seven re- turning lettermen from the undefeated 1950 team, opened the 1951 season against the perennial power, the Port Arthur Yellow Jackets. Though the Tigers fought valiantly, their inexperience, plus the strength of the Yellow Jackets, re- sulted in a 27-7 defeat. Experience came fast and furious as the Bengals began to wade through their schedule, which not only was the toughest one in the State of Texas, but also was considered by the locals as the toughest schedule ever encountered by the Tigers in the history of Texas High football. After a defeat in the initial game, the scrappy Bengals bounced back to win eight out of the remaining nine contests. The Tigers surprised their ancient rivals, the Marshall Mavs, by handing them a 27-21 defeat. The ever-powerful, revenge- minded Little Rock Tigers suffered a resounding upset at the hands of the spirited Myersmen. Sherman, in turn, proved to be weaker than expected, with the Tigers winning 33-0. Still underdogs, this time by 12 points, the Tigers dealt the Highland Park Scotties their first defeat on their home field in ten years, with a 34-18 pound- ing. After a considerable amount of pre-game sweating, figuratively and physically, the Bengals easily defeated a surprisingly weak Denison team 47-12. The Wichita Falls Coyetes, still on the prowl after winning the State Championship two con- secutive years, came to the Twin City in search of the district title. Still dealing surprises and upsets, the Tigers immediately scattered misfortune among the Coyotes, trouncing them 13-7. The Tigers warmed up a cold November night by smearing the Tyler Lions 33-0. The Waco Tigers handed Texarkana some of its own upset medicine, convincingly defeating the Border City Tigers 32-13. The overrated, outclassed Arkansas High Razorbacks had their upset hopes shattered when they met the Texas High Tigers on Thanksgiving Day. The fiery Bengals walloped the lads from the other side with ease 35-7. Thus ended a sur- prisingly successful l952 football season for the Texas Tigers.
