Texas City 22 vs Deer Park 14 Texas City ' s persistent Stingarees closed the 1966 football season with a bang as they walloped Deer Park 22-14. It was the Sting ' s ball game all the way, even the enclosing fog couldn ' t stop them. Maurice Mas- corro exhibited his running ability when he streaked 54 yards for the first T. C. touchdown. On the final play ? ' jr i of the first half. Deer quarterback, Dale Thorpe, attempted to pass, but he faded too deep and Allen Wilken- feld shot through in the end zone for a safety and 2 more points to give the Stings an 8-0 halftime lead. The Stings scored again following the Deer kickoff and Eddie Dahl kicked the extra point. Doug Wyatt, Mike Drake, and Mascorro put together the final T. C. score, Dahl ' s kick was true and the Stings had the vic- tory 22-14. AT. T.F.N WILKENFELD DOUG WYATT District Honorable Mention 209

La Marque 14 If people cried after the fumbled field goal attempt, in the final 59 seconds of Texas City ' s homecoming game against La Marque, no one noticed because five and one half inches of rain had already fallen in the stadium. The ballgame was Texas City ' s all the way but a missed ex- tra point in the third quarter left the Stings behind, and the fumbled field goal iced the victory for La Marque, and spoiled the TCHS homecoming 11-13. 10,000 plus fans braved the rain to witness one of the most spectacular football games of the 1966 football season. lesa 22-14. com ( 208
