The New Generation The new generation — a generation of Aggies to come through A M to know the feeling of victory and to know the feeling of change. Looking back on 1986 the feeling of a new era comes to mind. Girls were not only let into the Aggie Band for the first time in the history of the school but the GSSO and fraternities became recognized organizations. Many resisted this change and still do, fearing A M’s spirit would be forever lost. But, as the year unfolded the Spirit of Aggieland proved to still be as strong as ever. For the first time in countless number of years the Aggie fan knew the feeling of sweet victory not only on the men’s foot¬ ball field but, on the basketball court and baseball diamond as well with a Southwest Conference title in each. The Aggie foot¬ ball team also went on to win the Cotton Bowl in a victory over Auburn. The hopes for a new winning generation run high among Aggie sports fans. As the years go by and these and other changes become just another part of A M, many will look back on 1986 as the year of change and realize that the Aggie spirit may have to adapt to the times but, the true meaning of it never dies. 10 Aggies
