R08B To each member of the Class of 1947 Tennessee Wesleyan College Dear Senior: This letter is addressed to each of you individually. It is my fervent hope that you have discovered in your two years at Tennessee Wesleyan something of the true meaning of life. You have had opportunity to do this both through the curriculum v hich you have pursued and through the campus activities and personal contacts which you have experienced. I wonder if included in the interpretation of life that you have formed are some of these conclusions: 1. That life offers genuine rewards to those who merit them. 2. That habits of thrift and sobriety are important assets. 3. That real nobility of life calls for true gentility of character. 4. That every individual needs divine aid to bring his life to full fruition. It is my hope that your life will incorporate ell of these and that you will enjoy the richness of life which these make possible. Sincerely, JAMES L. PIGSKIN REVIEW OF ' 46 Wesleyan started its first post-war season with a flock of ex-GI ' s and also facing one of the greatest schedules in its history. With the return of the GI ' s came some of the best material ever accumulated at Wesleyan and a new head coach, C. 0. Smith and Assistant Jim Brooks. Our first four encounters were with Senior colleges, the first with Austin Peay State College. In what appears to be a scoreless stalemate during most of the game, victory became ours when Russ Godwin, an ex-Marine, scooped in a flat pass and ran forty yards to victory. Our next game was with Maryville College which we dropped 14 to 0, the Scotties later went to the Tangerine Bowl. Next came our toughest foe, Vanderbilt ' s B team, from the southeastern conference. The score, Vandy 27, Wesleyan 0. The next game was a heart- breaker, our old foe, Carson-Newman winning 3 to 0. Sparkman Jack Pemberton, Tom Pemberton, C. W. Pemberton Coming into our own class Wesleyan beat Brevard 14 to on a very muddy field. The team finally rounded into excellent shape and most of the boys want- ing victory over Milligan, our team played possibly their finest game of the season. Milligan ' s scores came 10 seconds before the first half and 20 seconds before the final whistle, beating us 12 to 7. This game in many a sport fans ' opinion was one of the roughest ever played in Athens. Next came our oldest foe, Hiwassee College, which we thoroughly trounc- ed 14 to 0, keeping our record intact of having never lost a football game to the Tigers. Middle Georgia was an easy foe, Wesleyan winning 44 to 0. Then came the Peach Bowl for the southeastern Junior College championship. Our opponent was Georgia Military College. In what was a bruising ball game our Bulldogs came from behind to chew out victory from the hide of a tough foe.
