EX LIBRIS We the p zoypJU ojj tke VnUed Stated, . 21105 BETTY BURGNER EDITOR JOHN MURPHY BUS. M G R. S. C. E V I N S SPONSOR PUBLISHED BY THE SENIOR CLASS OF TENNESSEE WESLEYAN COLLEGE. ATHENS. TENN. NDCflTULfl ' WERNER- PFEIFFER LIBRARY TENflESSEE WESLEYAN COLLEGE ATHENS, TElMNESSEE FOREWORD FORWARD MARCH! The theme that almost entirely dominated our thoughts during this year. Our own AMERI- CAN WAY — our football, ice cream, silk hose, pop-corn, bob- bie pins and Coca Colas being brought to our attention too evidently when we had to learn to survive without. But that wasn ' t much in our land of Freedom, not to us who had the privilege of attending college and selecting a vocation which would promote individually as well as a whole. In the succeeding pages may you be reminded of the days when our liberty and equality was challenged. As we re- gretted Johnny ' s leaving, yet highly praised his accomplish- ments for this good ole ' U. S. A.; as we regretted the interrup- tion, but were more than willing to stand for what we believe is right, so as you consider this account of our days together, may the prayer, which has become so prevalent in our thinking, be always in your heart and constantly before you — God Bless America! DEDICATION TO PROFESSOR S. C. EVINS, the Senior Class makes this dedication with no reservations, for it has been well earned in the services he has rendered to each of us. When our sky looked cloudy, he could always bring a ray of sunshine, showing a purpose behind any action we couldn ' t understand. He has dedicated himself to the task of instilling in in- quiring students a love for the finer in literature, an analytical mind, and an appreciation of the creative arts; and although his sometimes inquisitive nature made us shake in our shoes, this martyr of learning, never failed in his wit and humor to remain a distinct individual. He stands as a symbol of achievement in the realm of books, at all times sincere and genuine in his opinion, and in our thinking he will remain a master craftsman of the classroom. OUR PRESIDENT THE HAND OF WELCOME AND FAREWELL .... President James L. Robb stands at the door of the Administration Building, as he has many times stood, to welcome those who come here and to say goodbye to those who go. Each September a new class enters; each June an old class leaves, and the door is forever a symbol of a new life — a new life for all who come, a new life for all who go. CORE a SPORTS Our cheer leaders really did a bang up job of making games more fun this year, especially when they v ere decked out in their Blue and Gold paraphernalia. They stayed on the job every minute and yelled until they vere black and blue in the face and suffering from laryngitis. Evelyn Bow- ers, their capable leader, saw to it that they had special routines for each yell, which added color and excitement for all of us. Thanks to you who did such a swell job of upholding school spirit. They were runners-up in the Southeastern Junior College tournament at Boaz, Alabama, and two of their players were selected for the all-tournament team, this honor being bestowed upon Pat Sharp and Jack Thames. The fact of Coach Hutsell ' s leaving only stimulated the boys, as they proceeded in fine style to add more laurels to their crown. % SfLoni SJiXiii INTROD IJCING JA] E ROACH I • MILDRED HAMPTOl T W C S MlU MciA4i. a Ke4flQ Mli6.
