Red Ir Nineteen and thirty-nine witnessed Tennessee Wesleyan ' s loss of a great coach in Rube McCray, who bade farewell in order to take up an advanced coaching position in one of the nation s oldest and most respected institutions, William and Mary College. From the time Rube took over in 1931 till this year he turned out seven Southeastern Junior Conference and two undisputed Championship football teams. However, Wesleyan was fortunate, indeed, in finding a man of Hooper Eblen ' s caliber to replace Coach McCray. Eblen, an alumnus of Wesleyan and also a graduate of the University of Tennessee, excelled in the field of sports at both schools, being one of McCray s mainstays during the 1933 and 1934 seasons. We are looking forward to each man ' s continued success in their respective positions. Coach Rube McCray !β’ Β«? Β I BULLDOGS SEVENTH YEAR T Β« . The nineteen and thirty-nine cage season saw both the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs and the Basketettes wage very successful campaigns, which were climaxed by the boys winning the Southeastern Junior College tournament at Cochran, Georgia. After taking over the reins from Rube McCray in mid-season Hooper Eblen came through to make good in his first coaching assignment at Wesleyan. The Basketettes had one of their most triumphant seasons with a record of 7 won and 3 lost. In their regular season the boys weren ' t impressive, but after being instilled with a fire-eating appetite by Coach Eblen they hit their stride β and such a stride it was that Mac Myers and Mutt Knox were named on all-tournament first team,- whereas Tony Kirksey placed second.
