This in a word gives a picture of Tennessee W ' eslcyan College. 9 More than ten thousand young people have in the years past walked its campus, moved in and out of its classic halls and have gone forth to places of usefulness and service to their fellow man in all parts of the world in various lines of human endeavor. The thorough training, the guiding influence, the inspiration received at the college have all combined to prepare its graduates for the responsibilities of life and for happy, purposeful living. • Members of the class of 1935, I fully believe that you are entitled to take your place in this illustrious line. The qualities which you have shown here should carry you on to success in your chosen fields of labor. The college has done its best to serve you, it now expects you to carry this spirit of service with you wherever you may go. In the words of the Scriptures, Freely ye have received, freely give. ' . Lewis Y. Keith Co-Captaiii Coach Rube McCray ' s Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs maintained the notable record in 1935 that had been set up by the McCray men in rectnt years. The Bulld()i;s met some of the strongest teams in the South and sailed through seven ganu ' s of a nine-game schedule, winning their third consecutive junior college title in the Southeastern Conference. Starting the season with a green, but willing, hue and a nice aggregation of ball-totcrs, the McCray men began the season ' s activities by defeating their arch-nv.iK. the highlv-touted M.iryville Mii hlanders, in the last minute of play by a score of 14-1 . This accomplishment did much toward strengthening the nn.rale ot the team, and the boys proceeded to wade into the best of the Conference teams with tiiucIi gusto. The X ' esleyanites were defeated only by Scwanee and Middle Georgia. % Much of the credit for such a successful season goes to Co-Captains Swiney and Keith. Both played dependable games and were always in the thick of the fray. The work of Big Ren Parsley in the center of the line was alwa s a big asset and often proved the margin of victory against heavier elevens. Chili Chaftin, passer de luxe, had i good year as skipper of the backfield, and iiis quarter- backing was beyond criticism. Chaffin ' s passing accounted for many of the Bulldog tallies .iiid did much toward keeping the locals in the ball game. The entire team functioned well, and Coach McCray commends his squad on their hue work and read ' cooperation. • Red McCihee, hard-dnvmg fullback, and Ben Parsley, mainstay of the line, were chosen at the annual banquet to act as co-captains next year. Prospects for v lnlng the tourth consecutive title in the Southeastern Junior Conference arc very bright. o c ff rM ' Mi ' ifw ■: ' ::: T ' !: ' n: ' ' T U L Wesley an Wesleyan Wesleyan Wesley an Wesleyan Wesleyan . Frosh Brevard Bclmont-Abbey Temitiis Tennessee Wesleyan made it a perfect year by taking the Conference tcnni- ■et held at Cullowhee, North Carolina. This feat gave the Bulldogs three m, tie having already won the football and basketball championships. The Wesleyan netmen defeated several strong teams and were rated the best in this section. Consisting of several individual luminaries and a crack doubles team, the local boys furnished all opponents with plenty of action. The team that was used during the major part of the season was: Robb, Keith, Delaney, A r rants, and Bobby Robertson. Robb and Keith teamed for the doubles and Delaney and Arrants made up the other twin attack. Other men who saw service on the tennis squad were Raper and Mclntyre. Among the strong teams played by Wesleyan this year were Tennessee Military Institute, Young-Harris, Union College, and Hiwassee. T U L v iv ' : - :v ' mvy ' ' [ :i [ v .
