These men are truthfully worthy of our commendation. The captains of the team had the qualities of captains as well as the ability to play. They were typical Tech captains and led the team well. CAPTAIN GENE Anrokn 4-ug 1-,J AL'rIz1:NAT1s CAPTAIN B12NToN BILBREY FIIIITBALL THE SQUAD The Tech football squad reported for practice on September 15, two weeks before school started. Due to very little spring training and quite a few newcomers, the squad looked rather ragged for the first month. As the newcomers became used to the system and the other members became used to the feel of a football again, the squad looked more and more like a football team. Probably the best game played by the Tech team was against Union on Home-coming Day. The team let up on two plays while Union had the ball, both plays resulting in touchdowns. Other- wise, Tech had the upper hand by a good margin during the whole game. Score: 13-12. The thirteen belonged to Union. ' The traditional game with Murfreesboro State Teachers College again came out in Tech's favor by a score of 25-6. Although the Tech team did not come out on the long end as often as they have in some of the years past, the team was capable of playing good football. The team did play good football in spots, but the spots were not numerous enough. The boys appreciate the gratitude given them by the student body for their time and effort. Tech had no freshmen squad this year. Several freshmen lettered on the varsity team. The others are to be commended for their determination and interest as well as time and effort. lVfuch credit is due Coaches Qverall, Frey, Eblen, and Carlen, who demonstrated their expert ability by bringing a very green squad, as far as college football was concerned, into a well-rounded, capable team. Alter seeing a 'few games, one could see this Tech team had the same desire to win and the same willingness to fight at every opportunity to get possession of the ball. The team won approxi- mately half of its game: however, a glance at the scores show that those teams to which the nia- jority of lost games may be attributed were outstanding teams in the nation. A few freshmen were on the squad and were very beneficial to the team in making a suc- cessful season. The school is proud of its team and coach. They have our gratitude and appreciation for their effort in making Tennessee Tech a better school. One of the oppo- nents ol Tech decided against spring sports, leaving Tech with only two meets with Sewanee and the state meet. The team has ability and with practice will make a name for itself. Several men reported 'forming a team consisting of all four classes. The weather was bad during the first part oi the season which hindered progress to some extent. The first meet was lost to Sewanee, 62-54. The other meets are as yet to be had. if? it 'ik' it ffl? if if? it il? il? The tennis team is led this year by' Captain Malcolm "Buck" Marsh. Lee "Sonny" johnson and Raymond Agee are the only letter men returning from last year's team. XV ith the exception of Bill Hamm and Buck Marsh, who were on the squad last year. the rest of the team is made up of freshmen, some of which are very good prospects-namely, QI ere Jordan, Gilbert VVecldington, Charles llfopper. and lflarry l.ea. After losing the hrst match to a strong Maryville team by the score of 5-2, Coach Moorman thinks the team will produce better results in the remaining matches with Maryville, Sewanee, and perhaps Wfestern Kentucky. The team will also enter in the state meet which will he held at Sewanee this year.
