Marianne ravert Dear Clinical and Academic Faculty, Staff, Classmates and Friends, It is our genuine pleasure to present you with this 2009 Achilles Yearbook. Countless hours of study and “extracurricular" time have been foregone to produce this edition. In that, we hope to have created a book that truthfully captured some of the moments that made this year special to you. We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to our advisor, Mr. David Martin, as well as our Cooke Publishing Representative, Lisa Buscaglia, without whom this book would merely be a collection of photos lazily strew n about the floor of our yearbook office. Their efforts, while often overlooked, are truly appreciated. To those classes arriving after us (2010, 2011,2012) we offer this advice...take it all in. Before you stretch an infinite number of possibilities, and, while it is easy to look narrowly toward your next step, relish those already taken. Cultivate friendships, seize new opportunities and learn from past experiences. But, most importantly, be the change you seek. Don't rely on others to carry our profession... lift it up yourself. Finally, to our classmates we say thank you. Thank you for our shared joys and sorrows. Thank you for your encouragement and effort. While our time here has seemingly become a surreal blur in the shadows of our minds, we shall be forever joined by this common experience as friends and colleagues. In the words of Dr. Boyd, “earn- on for podiatry.” CD Thank you all. She opened her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.” -Proverbs 31:10, 25 26 PRAISE THE LORD!Dearest Katie, It seems only a short time ago you came to us, a gift from heaven. Today you exist in two worlds; one of exciting reality and one of gossamer memory'. You have brought us pride and joy in your growth and accomplishments: a woman grown and established in the world. You have the talent and skills to chart your own course and destiny. That is no small thing in today’s world. Soon to be a doctor, a healer of ills and infirmities; a wonderful life and career lie before you. Live it with purpose, joy and courage. And yet, in our memories, you still walk mam-paths and years. Flashes and glimmers of past moments and joys catch us pleasantly unawares. A smile of yours, a look, a laugh, a song, and you are instantly transported in our minds back to an earlier moment; when you touched our lives with some new wonder. A birthday party here, a trip there, the snowman we built in Oklahoma, movies we shared, and the quiet moments that spoke more than all. Gone are the days when giving you a quarter or a dollar made you as excited as someone w ho has found buried treasure. Yet it is we who have the great treasure; it is you. We look foreword to watching you continue to grow and excel in life, for such is life that naught remains the same, except in our memories and even they can be lovingly tempered by time. Though proud parents we are. parents we remain. Even as you and the world continue to move on, now and then, if we listen close enough, we can still hear the laugh or a song of our little Katie, lovingly preserved in echoes of time. We love you very much and are very proud of you. We wish you all the best in life and no tears lest they be tears of joy.
