D HEALTH SYSTEMS Class of 2013: It is with great pleasure that 1 extend my congratulations to the 12th class of clinical campus students who have completed their entire third and fourth years of clinical training at the Temple University School of Medicine Clinical Campus located in Pittsburgh. PA. We also continue to enjoy having the main campus students join us for their required and elective rotations. The Temple University School of Medicine Clinical Campus at West Penn Allegheny Health System (WPAHS) offers a stellar learning environment. Our five hospital health system includes Allegheny General Hospital and The Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights and Canonsburg General Hospital in Canonsburg, PA. We are proud that as a system, we have been recognized for the past three years as one of the nations leaders in patient care quality, as reported most recently in the Thomson Reuters 2012 “100 Top Hospitals; 15 Top Health Systems study. Our individual programs and hospitals also routinely receive national recognitions for quality care. In 2012 alone: Our WPAHS Radiation Oncology Network, the largest in the U.S., was the only one in western PA to receive accreditation from the American Society for Radiation Oncology. Several of our hospitals received American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines Quality Achievement awards for heart and stroke care. Four of our hospitals received high ranking across multiple clinical specialties in U.S. News World Report’s 2012-13 Best Hospitals Guide. Allegheny General was named by Thomson Reuters as one of the nations 100 Top Teaching Hospitals, the only major teaching hospital in the Pittsburgh area to earn this honor. AGH physicians often make news with their ground-breaking procedures, such as performing the region's first SynCardia Total Artificial Heart implantation. The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, the first in the area to earn Magnet Recognition for excellence in nursing services, became the first and only hospital in the region to earn Magnet redesignation, on Sept. 14, 2012. Only 395 of nearly 6,000 U.S. healthcare organizations have achieved this American Nurses Credentialing Center recognition. Forbes Regional Hospital received national recognition as one of the region’s top hospitals for clinical excellence in numerous areas, and for the third year in a row its heart surgery program was awarded Consumer Report’s highest recognition - 3 stars - for quality, based on an analysis by the Society for Thoracic Surgeons. We at the West Penn Allegheny Health System Clinical Campus are proud of our affiliation with Temple University School of Medicine, and we look forward to continued growth of our campus as a major resource for the School of Medicine in educating their students.
