SENIORSIf someone hod told you, four years ago. that in order to graduate you would have to spend at least ten hours a day sitting on a hard metal stool in a room almost a block long working with carcinogenic materials, what would you have said? "No way, Jose," "Sorry, that sounds a little too kinky for me," or "Gee, Mr Sullivan, getting accepted at TUDS was the best thing that ever happened to me! Dentistry is a nifty profession, and I will be eternally grateful for this wonderful opportunity!" if the third one was your choice, then you deserved to waste a year of your life in ...

127128129SUPER SENIOR HONOR SOCIETY
The Super Senior Honor Society is a recently organized group of dynamic fifth year students dedicated to the preservation of the TUDS tradition of receiving empty envelopes at graduation.
Up until recent years, club membership was extremely limited (less than five students per year). In the past two years, however, membership has skyrocketed, thanks mainly to the assistance of Dr. Sheldon Winkler and the Prosthetics Department. Membership in 1981 promises to be greater than that in the past five years added together. The exact number of members varies at any given time, due to such factors as miscasts, being assigned a chair in Dr Joseph Salkowitz's row, and death of denture patients before or at wax try-in. At the end of the first semester of each new class's junior year, however, the Crown and Bridge Department is able to predict which members of the class will be Super Seniors.
Members of the Society try to keep a very low profile, sparing no effort to preserve anonymity (above) Name tags must never be worn, as the color coding could serve to tip off other TUDS students (as well as faculty) as to the identity of a Super Senior.
Honor Society activities revolve mainly around sitting in the Vendeteria, having breakfast and lunch at the Temple Grill, playing pinball or watching TV at the Student Union, and not doing lab work.
Membership is by invitation of the Director of Clinics Office only.
Several of this year's members have kindly provided guidelines for those students who strive for membership in the Society:
"Don't take any advice from faculty. Those guys are all out of touch with reality. If they really knew what they were doing, they'd be on the outside making the really big money." - Dr. W.X.
"My wife was pregnant most of the time during my first four years here, so most of my time was taken up with childbirth classes and trips to the hospital. I feel this is a good way to get into the Society. A big plus is that your wife has the satisfaction of knowing she helped you to become a Super Senior." - Dr. E.F.
"Don't ever give a patient your home phone number. Come to think of it, don't give them the school's phone number, either. If they want an appointment, they should consider the work you have to do. getting a chair and setting up your equipment They should be grateful for this, and show their appreciation. So give them your address and let them send a Candygram or basket of fruit when they want an appointment." - Dr. C.D.
"Try to take as many drugs as you can to get through clinic. You might have to take out another loan to get through your fifth year, but you do get a better grade in Therapeutics." - Dr. Q.R.
"Spend as much time as you can in the Graduate Clinic. Those guys are great down there, and it's the only place in the school where all the instructors wear designer ties." - Dr. I.J.

We, the Monks of the Residual Ridge, strive to be mesial. We are one in ultimate centric relation and, as one, drift continuously toward the midline, where mesial meets mesial. We vow to stabilize all that is mesial and are molded to undercut and displace anything that is distal. Our ultimate goal is to practice our "key" law (The Monk Key): "Support Labia Everywhere."

166167168169170171174175176"I cXJn't use my onti-perspront today and I may not use it tomorrow ”THE POETRY OF
AN ODE TO THE LOGIC OF SPOOK, THE WISDOM OF ARISTOTLE,
Oh, I must go down to Oral Surgery again, 'Cause Winkler has decreed.
The vertical dimension's wrong.
And his orders I must heed
I'll march my patient down the stairs.
She's scared, with limbs like jelly.
But we'll march on through the big green doors. To talk to Dr Kelley,
"Tuberosity!" he roars out loud.
“Bilateral," I reply.
“While you're at it fix the buccal bone,
“Cause Sheldon doesn't lie."
In March of nineteen- eighty.
Dickie Hinson called me in.
Saying “Take this denture patient.
Cease those amalgams made of pins."
So I called her in and worked her up,
“When can I get my teeth?" she said.
“Figure four or five short visits.
Soon as you can get the bread."
So I took her to the Butler's place.
I couldn't find the Doorman.
Sparkey got me. but what the hell.
It could have been Stormin' Norman
“Mark her down to get her teeth all slicked. Ain't no jive dentists workin' 'round here.
We'll get a consult from Rosen,
Just in case it isn't clear."
So I took her to Prosthetics.
The White Tornado I asked to see.
“Is there room for a set of dentures?"
“Check the tuberosity!"
“No problem." he wheezed, all out of breath. “You've come to just the right place. Tuberosities are my specialty.
You've got yards and ydrds of space "
So I took her down to Surgery.
To do the extraction trick.
Did a neat little alveoloplasty.
Thought she'd heal up real quick.
So she came back to get the sutures out. Some dumb Junior, I don't know who.
Yanked the flap out with the knotted end,
(talk about your basic screw).
From that point on. dear reader.
Nothing was ever quite the same.
Her days were filled with ice packs.
Her gums were filled with pain.
So on we marched to wax try-in,
(may I go to jail for perjury),
The Fonz took one look, choked back a laugh. And said, “Back down to Surgery."
“She needs her tuberosities reduced, my boy, 'Cause there's just too little space.
It's all becoming clear to me.
And there's no time left to waste."
194CHARLES PAXSON (part 2)
THE COMPASSION OF HIPPOCRATES, AND THE METHODS OF (or Jesus Christ, not again?)
"But Sir.” I cried. "The consult!
If you'll just take the briefest glance.
We asked about this months before!"
But the Fonz said. "Not a chance."
So back to Surgery we went.
Into the General Room,
Eased her way with IV sedation.
Plotted Winkler's hour of doom
Back up to Plates to do it again,
I started the primary impression.
Vertical, centric, and what do you think?
Back for another surgical session.
For The Fonz saw something he just didn't like. Nestled deep in her gums so scarred.
A piece of smooth bone that stuck out a bit. And hurt when he pushed real hard
“But we can relieve that!” I cried with a shriek. "It hasn't bothered her yet.”
"Send her down immediately,” he replied,
"I'm sick of hearing you fret.”
In case you're getting a bit confused.
And it really isn't too hard.
I'll review the whole situation.
Since I talked to the big tub of lard
That's three trips down to Oral Surgery.
Two wax try-ins and a big bunch of trays. Enough wax to make a seven foot candle. Or ease a ship down the ways
And oh. by the way. it's November.
That's nine months and several odd days. Since I first saw Dickie Hinson.
And started my prosthetic ways.
And I think I'm losing my sanity.
I can't seem to get at the cause.
I should have gone to Dr Monari.
Or God help me. even The Waz.
And shit, you just know it's not over.
We're right back again at the start.
I've still got to fight with Monasky,
I hope Winkler still has a heart.
So I say let Stan Wasko have them.
Charge them a hundred or so.
Bring them in and slick them on Wednesday, By Friday they're ready to go
But wait, my mind's feeling foggy.
This wasn't the original caper.
Oh shit, that's right, now I remember.
I should be writing my Ortho paper

198THE POETRY OF CHARLES PAXSON (part 3)
You've worked your ass off on that bastard Class Two.
You're sweating it out 'cause the pulp's showing through.
But Robbins comes toward you waving a cross.
I guess Temple's gain is U of P.'s loss.
And he sends you to murder most foul.
You enter the elevator, press floor number one. It's a dirty job. but it's got to be done.
You pass Oral Surg. take a turn to the right.
Past the two water fountains, down the hallway so bright.
Getting closer to murder most foul.
You pick up the broach, nothing else left to do. Esposito and Morse are smiling at you.
You thrust it in, there's a horrible scream.
You push and you pull (well you came here to ream).
'Cause you're committing murder most foul.
You twist and you turn, thrusting out. thrusting in. Amidst rending of tissue and frightening dm.
The pulp screams in anguish, the blood vessels tear. The blood spurts forth, leaving spots on the chair. As you continue with murder most foul.
With a gleam in your eye and a shortness of breath, You rip forth the broach at the moment of death. You recite Endo's creed. "The pulp's born to die." You sit there in triumph as Sinai walks by.
And you've just done murder most foul.
Oh what do you do when the onlays won't fit? When amalgams fall out and the crowns won't sit? When cusps interfere and sutures won't knot? When centric comes back to a different spot? You turn to murder most foul.
So you butter up Seltzer, kiss everyone's ass.
Pick up DP A molars and plug them up fast. Practice reaming and filing till you're blue in the face.
Advocate Endo all over the place.
Make a career of murder most foul
You work on a project, prove restoration's a waste. Inject newborn infants with Sargenti's new paste. Feed cats formocresol with loads of Nine Lives. Clone pink gutta percha. split molars with knives. 'Cause you're into murder most foul
At night you go home and beat up your wife. Lock your kids in a closet, stick your dog with a knife. Crush your son's turtle, light his hamster on fire. Hang his pet bunny by the ears with a wire.
That's the way of murder most foul'
