t was quite a year! Though much like other school 'ears, it had a slightly different feel to it. There was i feeling in the air that made it unlike the years mmediately preceding it. Students seemed more nterested in school activities. New clubs were ormed and old ones increased in membership. Students seemed more interested in classes and :lass work. The results of the North Central •valuation gave the entire Tempe High community i psychological boost with its findings of an utstanding program. There was a concerted effort o keep up with the technology explosion in both :urricular and extra-curricular activities. Nearly ;veryone was taking or planning to take a ;omputer class of some kind and a surprising lumber of students had computers at home. There v as a sense of urgency, a desire to get on with it, to :atch up with and then keep ahead of an ncreasingly faster moving world. Though students till worried about those less fortunate than themselves and the service clubs were very active, there seemed to be a more pragmatic view toward the world and its problems. People were concerned at even earlier ages about what they were going to do with their lives. The fighting in the Middle East and Central America, some of it causing casualties among American servicemen, was certainly sobering and of some concern. But those things were still far away for most of the Tempe High community and they didn’t seem to play much of a role in our every day lives. The athletic teams did as well or better than they had in several years. School spirit seemed to have been found again. Students and faculty were proud to be members of the Tempe High family and bragged about it. Perhaps the feeling was best expressed by Coach Glenn Alford at the football season’s first pep rally when he said, The Buffs are back!” And it seemed that he was right. This unique, splendid, exciting year was truly THE YEAR OF THE BUFFALO. .mong the most spirited groups at Tempe High were the and basketball games. The Pommies execute a high kick, a’la :heerlines and the Pommies.
