Band goes to the Windy Ci’fy Sophomore Eric Houston practices Senior Trish Jones puts all of I the French horn before the concert, ability into playing the clarinet. Seniors Trish Jones and Derek Jackson attack the streets of Chicago. The Buffalo Symphonic Band was one of four high school bands in the nation chosen by tape audition to play for the 37th Annual Mid-West National Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago from December 13 to December 18. Their playing before this prestigious group was outstanding and brought the audience to its feet in a standing ovation even before the conductor, Mr. Steve Peterson, could turn around. No other band at the clinic received such an immediate standing ovation. Band members spent the week practicing for their concert and sightseeing in cold, windy Chicago. They made many new friends and enjoyed a musical learning experience they will probably never be able to duplicate the rest of their lives. Senior Vernon Richardson responds happily and readily to questions about the Buff Band’s performance from two coeds from Evanston. Indiana. The Chicago skyline became a familiar sight to t Tempe High Band. It will always bring back memories snowy days and sub zero nights. 30 - Student Life

After the game let’s go to.... The spot depends on what class you are in. But everyone, freshman through senior, has to go somewhere. Nobody goes straight home! The underclassmen head for Peter Piper’s across the street. Upperclassmen disdain the pizza’s they had before they could drive and head down the block for Tony's and his “real Italian food.” Others drive to Snow or Paradice Cream, both a few miles away. If it’s on the weekend and there’s no dance, the upperclassmen head for the Riverbottom, the Tree, the Bikepath or wherever the party is. Some hardy souls who disdain sleep will head for the midnight movies. The variety of offerings as seen inside of Paradice Cream gives an idea why it was so popular. paradice cream 1 ■IBWJP -I'J.11 , ■ WHIPPED td CREAM custom Mended to fpnr order i Paradice Cream was probably the most popular ice cream shop in Tempe area as far as the Buffaloes were concerned. i eteb| piper praw Inside Peter Piper's Pizza were a variety of video games to keep the restless or bored student Just across the street was one of the favorite pizza shops, Peter Pipt entertained while he ate his pizza.
