Many went home, particularly if they had to ride the bus. Others headed for after- school jobs. If they were out for an athletic team, they went to the gym for a quick change into a practice or game uniform. Many attended meetings of the clubs organized on campus. Some, worried about classroom problems, sought out teachers for extra help. A few participated in intramural sports such as racketball. Their playing before this prestigious group was outstanding and brought the audience to its feet in a standing ovation even before the conductor, Mr. Steve Peterson, could turn around.
