Yet, it was unique in several ways. A modified closed campus became the rule and most releases became a thing of the past as students were either in class or study hall. Many didn't realize the changes had taken place and the student body generally came to accept them as the way it’s always been. ” Increased emphasis was placed on academics with strong remedial programs in such areas as mathematics, reading and writing. Another academic change was the increased emphasis on computers and computer awareness. Students planning to go to college were strongly advised to take the computer courses offered. Teachers got hands-on experience as they worked with the five Apple computers made available to them during the year. Learning in all areas took place, students formed new friendships, they participated in a myriad of activities, emphasis was still on the individual, most knowledge was gained through doing a variety of tasks, and we all ended the year with a stack of memories, some personal, others held in common with our fellow students. This book attempts to Focus On the events of the past year, to help you relive them and savor them once again, remembering both the good and the bad, and gaining knowledge from your experiences. 16 Senior class council Sirls and Boys Representatives were Rhonda Erhardt and Dennis lames. To raise money for the event the class sponsored a dance, held a car wash, sold candy, keychains,THS buttons, and Fudge Huts. The officers did their best to get the class involved and spirited. The boys travel to the University of Arizona, and the girls head for Northern Arizona University, where they meet other delegates from throughout the state and establish miniture governments at all levels. Campaigning takes place and practical politics are learned as legislatures and city councils seek solutions to the myriad of problems faced by such bodies in real life. 114 Activities Carrie Frizzell Sheri Griffin Ray Agee Susan Overson Chris Regina to John Halstead 115 Senior Anna Ainas said she liked her teachers here. There were only five staffers, one of whom was a transfer from another school and therefore not familiar with the way things were done on the THS newspaper. There was also the problem of typesetting all copy and doing the final paste-up, sending the paper to the printer camera-ready. Though the staff had worked with the typeseter last year, most had forgotten the intricacies of running the computer-like machine. With much pain, strain and sweating, the paper did come out an average of once a month, though several deadlines were postponed. At semester, help finally arrived as more than a dozen members of the Basic Journalism class joined the staff. Most issues of the tabloid-sized newspaper were eight pages with a salient issue occupying the center double-page spread. By year’s end, all staffers could use the typesetter to some extent, and several had learned how to screen prints, making them camera-ready. 206-Activities Senior Paula Adamczyk stops to laugh at a joke while workin on copy.
