Dedication Miss Una D. Hilliker Through thirty-four years spent in the classroom she endeavored to apply the educational goals, teach the worth of life and plain the necessity for knowl- edge to a cosmopolitan group of students. In the long years of depression, wars, and the advent of the atomic age, obstacles often arose which might have dis- mayed a less intrepid spirit. Dauntless she was in battle for the rights of teachers; concern was hers for those decisions arising in public life which affected the profession. Her most vigorous oratory came in a crisis. She was a pioneer, a champion worthy of respect. The indifference and laissez-faire attitude of the public toward the plight of teachers brought forth a cogent response from her. Striving to enlighten and nourish the youth of this city she took on a distinctive role. The worth of a teacher comes not by social approval or statistical success, but from a personal union with the pupils who comprehend and recognize the author- ity of the individual whom they regard as The Teacher. In her, students found a living symbol of the teaching art and a source of wisdom, inspiration and courage. In retirement she has left behind her the fulfillment of an especial career which brought to multitudes in every walk of life material assistance and perception which can not be measured but only appreciated. So with Ovid one might conclude The end crowns the work. ”
