Withhis assistant directors, Mr. Jackson and Mr. Lynch, he has been responsible for many a smashhit. After screen tests are ably given by Miss Hoar, the tedious job of part casting is left up to the counselors. The faculty takes charge of the daily rehears - als and the big show in June. The Office staff, acting as choreo- graphers, arrange and announce rehearsal changes and assist the directors with their work. A production can only be as good as its directors make it, and we have the best. The rehearsals did have their ups and downs; how- ever, thanks to the devoted and tireless effort of our teachers, the ups greatly outnumbered the downs and our production was a huge success. Following in the Tech tradition, Technivision walked off with top honors in almost every field in- volvedinsuch a production. This would have been impossible with- out the expert guidance that we meceived . We, theactors, gratefully turn all the honors over to you, the directors. SEATED, left to right: Miss Murray, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Poulin, Mrs. Brake, STANDING: Mr. Setian, Mr. Sonski, Mrs. Rheault, Mr. Donati. This year there have been eleven additions to the Tech faculty. He taught at Classical Junior High before being transferred to Tech. Mr. Howard F. Reed Last October, Mr. Howard F. Reed brought to a close a long and highly successful career in education. His retirement marked the completion of forty-four years of teaching, thirty-eight of which were spent in Tech's machine shop. Mr. Reed, after having graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in Boston, continued his education at Wentworth Technological Institute. He then served an apprenticeship at Blanchard Machine Company. Before comingto Tech, Mr. Reed served as an instructor in tool grinding at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. With the advent of World War I, his teaching abilities were put to use in M.I.T.'s School of Military Aeronautics. When Mr. Reed came to Tech in 1923, the school was headed by Mr. Charles Pop Warner. Mr. Reed served faithfully under him and under every succeeding Tech principal. Because of his many interests and activities, Mr. Reed will not be idle during his retirement. He hopes to return occasionally to teaching, as a substitute, and to devote much time to his hobby, photography. We at Tech, both students and faculty, miss Mr. Reed and give him our deepest thanks for his years of service. We wish him happiness in the years to come. 13 SITTING from left to right: Miss Carlson, Miss Bartley, Miss Carey, Miss Shea, Mrs. Barzeau, Miss Hilliker. We first flashed across the screen in the fall of 1959 as a group of frightened freshmen. We didn't know what to expect but soon be- came part of the spirited Tech organization, In 1960 we veterans returned as Juniors. We fought hard, im- proving ourselves schoolastically with three of our members be- coming National Merit Semi- Finalists . In 1961 we returned more spirited than ever, proving our worth by winning the S.A. mem- bership drive. As the first few weeks of June are drawing near, weseniors have reached our high school zenith, @xaduation. After that, the class of ‘62 becomes history; our mark on Tech High will remain forever. We salute you, Class of 1962. Margaret Wingard David Frank Nicoli The Charles F. Warner Achievement Medal is awarded each year to the Sen- ior boy and girl who exemplify the highest attainments in school citizenship, ser- vice, and scholarship. Margaret Wingard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm K. Wingard of 31 Dresden Street, is one of the winners. Margaret ranks thirty-second in scholar- ship in her class, and has been very active in school affairs, particularly in Tech's music program. She has beena member of the National Honor Society and the Tech News staff for two years, as well as a leader in committee work for her class. Tech salutes you, Margaret! Wanmerv Achievement David F. Nicoli, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nicoli of 137 Whittum Avenue, is the second winner. Dave tops his class scholastically, and has won many honors for his school and himself in science and math competition. With all of this, he has found time to creditably fulfill the responsibilities of editor-in-chief of Tech Tiger, vice president and three-year member of the Red Cross Coun- cil, three-year member of the Inter-high Red Cross Council, and three-year member and treasurer of the Radio Club. Dino Carando Vice President Our high school days have come to an end. Let's stop for a moment to recall all the memories which we have collected during our three years at Tech. Remember our freshman year when Jerry Gagliarducci was president and Don Palmer was vice-president? Whata combination! Of course, we can't forget Rocco Carabetta as treasurer and Pat Hosley as secretary. Our first dance, May Magic, as we recall, was a smashing success. Then came our junior year when Jim Sternowski took over as president and Don Palmer remainedas vice-president. Pam Roebuck was elected treasurer and Dale Randall, sec- retary. We all had a wonderful time at our junior dance, Harvest Moon. Our junior Senior Advisors, SEATED, left to right: Miss Bartley, Mrs. Fein. STANDING: Mr. Reid, Mr. Loiko, Mr. Dunn. ey ae i 76 Pamala Roebuck Treasurer Dale Randall Secretary prom, Chanson D'Amour, was just as much fun. Who will ever forget our senior year when Hoop Palmer took over as the big wheel, while Dino Carando filled in as vice-president. Pam and Dale were again elected as treasurer and secretary. We wonthe S.A. race, and Linda Clapp reigned over the Red Cross Dance, Evergreen Eve. Our first dance of the year, Carousel, started activities off with a bang; our winter semi-formal also proved to be very successful. Of course, we can't forget our wonderful senior prom and banquet, all the fun we had on class day andthe event that will remain most outstanding in our memories of our days at Tech, the final event--GRADUATION!!! In this production the not so insignificant job of supporting actors falls into the capable hands of the Juniors, Remember how We, -€S be- wildered freshmen, on the expert advice ofan upperclassman, found ourselves looking for the fourth floor by way of the elevator or suddenly on our way to the girls' Sym when we wanted to gotoa biology class on the third floor? After a while such excuses as I got lost or Don't we have first lunch? didn't work as well as they used to, Already many of us were lend- ing our talents to the various sports, choruses, and activities. Our Junior year was even bet- ter. During this eventful year forty-one of us attained member- ship in the National Honor Society, andwehad about 75% membership in the $.A. drive. Some of our most pleasant memories are our dances this year, especailly our Junior Prom. Our year as supporting actors is now over, but as seniors we willbe the stars of our own show. As we look back we remember how we, as frantic freshmen, '' upset convention by electing a girl to lead our class. Our slate of officers was Diane Nelson, president; Wayne Fisher, vice-president; Kathy O'Sullivan, secretary; and Pat Connor, treasurer. Another pleasant memory is our Fresh- man dance April Amour for which we transposed the boys’ gym into an atmosphere of love. When we became 'jivey juniors we had John Marnelakis as president; Diane Nelson as vice-president; Kathy O'Sullivan as secretary; and Pat Connor as treasurer. Misty our Junior dance was held late in October. The class banner and colors were selected in the latter part of the second semester . Bringing our second year to a close, we danced to the wonderful music at the junior prom. Much credit for the success of the year goes to our class advisors. These featS were, at times, very frustrating and seemed impossible. Remember that first week of our high school career at Tech? What about the mischievious Senior who directed us to the boys' gym whenwe asked the location of the girls' gym, and how we nearly crawled under the lockers when we sud- denly realized we were not especially wanted inthis vicinity of the tremendous building? We know this was just one of the many frustrating trials that came into the spotlight. When, at last, the finishing touches are being put on our Freshman year at Tech, we pause and give a heavy sigh and scream, at the top of our lungs, MAMMA MIA to relieve the tension built up through our exhausting per- formances, which we attempted through thick andthin. This is the time when we Silo Ole G16 Siep ih. our career and become more important. When we look back at the past, it seems we have gone through so much frustration, but take a look into the future and see what's about to come! The band really outdid itself playing such lively tunes as Sabre Dance by Kha- chaturian, Bolero by Ravel, Bugler's Holiday by Anderson featuring Bob Armada, Ned Czahara, and Barry Heath, and, as a final selection, two very difficult movements from Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky. A well deserved thank-you goes to both Mr. Myers and Mr. Kegerreis for their tireless efforts in presenting such a fine musical evening. Peter Fredette 129 131 the directors, stars, support- ing actors, and understudies are all ready and eager: they are given the chance to use some of their excess energy on location . In sports The cries, ‘Hold them back’ and Let's go, Tiger awe cheered many a deserving and in- dustrious Tech team on to vic- tory. No matter if we win or lose, we showed the quality Tech has always been known for-- spirit. In the fall the rugged football and soccer teams are on location. Then, as the snow be- gins to fall, the scene changes to basketball, hockey, bowling, wrestling, and swimming. Spring brings baseball, tennis, golf, and crew to the field. Werextend Oursnearticst-con- gratulations to all the boys who have participated in these sports and, certainly to their capable @ec energetic coaches, for continuing to demonstrate a high quality of sportsmanship and that Tech spirit.
