PRINCIPALS Mr. Gifford dictates a note to Mrs. Gilwich. When asked his opinion of Tech spirit, Mr. Donald G. Gifford said, “I think that Tech spirit is tremendous. My only hope is that we can provide the kind and quality of activities which will nurture and strengthen this spirit.” Mr. Melvin A. Lynch replied, ‘The Tech spirit is something that all other schools would like to have, but they really don't know how to get it. .” In the opinion of Mr. Belding F. Jackson, “. . This year was no excep- tion, as nineteen teachers joined Tech's faculty. The English Department took a goodly portion of these “profs.'’ Miss Rose Lynch, Miss Judith Carl- son, Miss Betty Roth, Mrs. Dorothy Pryor, and Miss Ruby Bevens tackled the task of teaching Techites. Mrs. Pryor came to Tech after serving as a sub- stitute for many years, while Miss Lynch, Miss Carl- son, and Miss Bevens came from junior highs. Miss Roth came to Tech from Vinton, Iowa where she taught speech. In the realm of atoms and molecules, Mr. Robert Dooley, Mr. Norman Forest, and Mr. Joseph Hopkins joined Tech's Science Department. All four teachers have had previous experience. Tech's Math Department took on Mr. Charles Withirell and Mr. Joseph Laronda. Mr. Laronda hails from Norton High, while Mr. Withirell served two years as Dean of Men at Wienstevoh, an agriculture college in Germany. Miss Elizabeth Huller, the only addition to Tech's Foreign Language Department, is well qualified, hav- ing attended Our Lady of the Elms College and the University of Massachusetts and having taught at schools in Belchertown. Both gyms have new additions this year - Mr. Donald Foley for the boys, and Mrs. Mary Jo Walkup and Mrs. Fredrica Vaughn for the girls. Mr. Foley, a graduate of Springfield College, formerly taught at Buckingham. Mrs. Walkup comes from Texas where she taught in the Pasadena schools. Mrs. Vaughn hails from Buckingham and Forest Park schools. Tech’s Music Department took on two new profs, Mr. Richard Kegerreis and Mr. Warren Myers now teach pupils about sharps and flats. Mr. Kegerreis is in charge of the vocal groups, and Mr. Myers is in charge of instrumental groups. In Tech's Shop Department, Mr. Neal Bradstreet and Mr. Charles Piterse teach Tech students drawing. Mr. Bradstreet previously taught at schools in Rhode Island, and Mr. Piterse had teaching experience at Forest Park. Last, but not least, Mr. Harry Vatousiou is a welcome addition to History Department, Mr. Vat- ousiou, a Tech grad, has had teaching experience in Canton, Mass.
