PARKETTE gl JANE TODD INN oadmg 7 7 anime Durlng the last th1rty years economlc agrlcultural and soc1al 1mprovements w1th1n Taylor County have been l1ttle short of phenomenal Throughout the county are found recently constructed substant1al and attractlve homes modern barns w1th every convenlence and productlve farms equlpped w1th up to the m1nute machlnery of all kmds Splend1d churches w1th educat1onal plants and modern appo1ntments are 'Ln ev1dence 1n all parts of the county Expens1ve new cars and trucks are to be seen da1ly roll1ng along the many flne h1ghways Industrlal development has kept apace by the constructlon of a multl m1ll1on dollar factory at Campbellsv1lle the Tennessee Gas Transmlsslon Company plant at Saloma and the modern m1lk rece1v1ng and process1ng plant bu1lt by Chappell's Daxry People generally are prosperous and happy 1n the bel1ef that Taylor County affords splend1d opportunlty for pleasant and prof1table l1v1ng In some respects however the county has reluctantly fa1led to keep abreast of the tlmes Educators have long been convlnced that one room and other small educat1onal plants are both unproductlve and extremely expenslve Taylor County IS unfortunate 1n that It has f1fty four one room schools and f1V6 of the two room type People seem to have belleved rather generally that educatlonal opportun1t1es 1n these schools were comparable w1th those afforded 1n consohdated schools and that the program was extremely econom1cal But facts 1n the case show that we are 1n error 1n both par tlculars and members of the Taylor County Board of Educatlon have taken steps w1th1n the last few months to remedy the s1tuat1on Sl1ghtly 1ncreased revenues from both local and state sources made lt poss1ble to undertake a school bu1ld1ng construc t1on program deslgned to prov1de educat1onal fac1l1t1es at least to the level ach1eved by ne1ghbor1ng count1es wh1ch ev1dently are no more progresslve and prosperous An elementary wmg of thlrty classrooms together w1th an expanded audltorlum gymnaswm w1ll be added to the exxstmg bu1ld1ng at Taylor County I-hgh School At present some four hundred students are housed ln the bu1ld1ng wlthout suff1c1ent seatlng space for that number 1n e1ther the gy1:nnas1um cafeter1a or aud1tor1um The new plant w1ll prov1de ample space for all the act1v1t1es of the h1gh school together w1th nearly one thousand elementary students Plans are be1ng drawn for a ten room elementary bulldlng at Mannsv1lle to prov1de houslng for the many students of that closely populated area A transportatlon program IS projected that w1ll enable every ch1ld ln the county to r1de to and from school The whole program IS pred1cated on the f1rm behef that Taylor County ch1ldren const1tute the most unportant segment of the total wealth of the county The adm1n1s tratlon IS determ1ned to see that opportun1ty IS prov1ded for every ch1ld to have a reasonably good educat1on at the elementary and secondary levels and has the fa1th to beheve that a goodly percentage of Taylor County people w1ll apprec1ate the effort made 1n behalf of the1r ch1ldren 52 YEARBOOKS
