EXECUTIVE UFFICER LIEUTENAN T A CO ER DANIEL I. O'CONNELL, USN Lieutenant Commander Daniel J. O'Connell was born on 29 November 1933 in Lowell, Massachusetts. He attended Boston Latin school, and Harvard prior to entering the U.S. Naval Academy from where he graduated in 1957. LCDR O'Connell has served' on the following vessels: USS PERRY, CDD-8445, USS CONYNGHAM QDDG-175, USS HYMAN QDD-732j, and USS TAUSSIG QDD-7465. He further served on the staff of Commander Cruiser Division ONE, two tours on the staff of the. Chief of Naval Cperations QCP-90 and OP-915, and is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College. Medals worn by LCDR O'Connell are the National Defense fSecond Awardj, Vietnam Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal Qlioreaj. LCDR O'Connell is married to the former Miss Sheila M. O'Connor of Dorchester, Massachusetts. They have five children Daniel 9, William 8, Carole Anne 6, Richard 4, and Mark 3 and make their home in Chula Vista.

COMMANDING COMMANDER Commander Robert E. Adler entered the U.S. Naval Academy in 1947, and in June 1951, was graduated and commissioned an Ensign. Immediately following grad- uation he served for two months as an instructor at the Academy. From September 1951 to August 1953 he was stationed aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS TARAWA fCVA-403 as the assistant navigator. In January 1953, during his tour of duty on the TARAWA, he was promoted to LTJG. From September to February 1953, he was attached to USS LSMR 525 as Executive Officer and navigator. From March 1955 to June 1956, Commander Adler served as Commanding Officer of the coastal minesweeper USS KINGBIRD QMSC-19519. He was promoted to Lieutenant in June 1956. Entering the U.S. Naval Post Graduate School in July 1956, he was graduated in July 1959 with a master of science degree in electrical engineering. While at the Post Graduate School he received an award from the Institute of Aeronautical Sciences for his contribution to research. In June 1959, he reported aboard the destroyer USS BLANDY QDD-94135 and served as operations officer. He was serving in this billet when he received his promotion to Lieutenant Commander on 1 October 1960. Departing the BLANDY in February 1961, Commander Adler became Executive Officer of the destroyer USS NORRIS QDD-8495. In August 1962, he reported to the London branch of the Office of Naval Research and was designated science liaison officer. While serving there he received the Navy Commendation Medal and was promoted to the Staff of Commander, First Fleet and for the next two years served as surface operations officer. While serving there he received a gold star in lieu of a second award of the Navy Commendation Medal. Commander Adler assumed command of the USS TAUSSIG QDD-7465 in june 1968. Commander Adler is married to the former Elsie Cohen of Annapolis, Maryland and has three children, Tracy, age 12, Nancy, age 11, and David, age 9. OFFICER ROBERT E. ADLER, USN
