Good liberty? You bet! On the 29th of October the TAUSSIG arrived in Melbourne, Australia to join in the festivities of the Melbourne Cup week. TAUSSIG at once commenced a whirl of dinners, balls, parties, and just plain old socia1izing which seemed endless. The short stay far surpassed the expectations of all as the warm friendship and hospitality for which the Australians are famous was extended in full measure by the citizens of Melbourne. But, as the men of the TAUSSIG were anticipating one final weekend, the veracity of the TAUSSIG's motto We Are Ready Now, Sir was again illustrated as COMSEVENTHFLT ordered the TAUSSIG to proceede to Frederick's Reef to render assistance to the USS TIRU, a United States sub- marine which had run aground. With the aid of the citizens of Melbourne the crew was speedily recalled and the TAUSSIG was underway within 2 lf2 hours, the last assignment before the long transit home to our families and loved ones. 'il Let it all hang out! , the motto for the ship's party IT IS BETTER TO HAVE LOVED AND LOST
