The last two weeks fof Jtme and the first two weeks of July were filled with a variety of missions to test the versatility of the All-Purpose Destroyer. After providing ASW and Plane Guard services for the USS CONS TELLATION the TAUSSIG proceeded to the Southern Search and Rescue Station a mere 25 miles from the North Vietnamese shore where one of our primary duties was to refuel helicopters stationed off the coast waiting for a call to rescue a downed pilot. This new concept called ln-Flight Refueling was easily mastered by the men of the Taussig. Below, Helo number 62 hovers over the Taussig's helo deck to pick up the refueling hose. At right, Ensign Seder and Gunners Mate Chief Hundley en- joy the sun while standing watch in the Gun Director.

A NEW MISSION CONNIE On the 15th of June the TAUSSIG joined the USS CONSTELLATION QCVA 645, the third largest aircraft carrier in the world, for duties primarily as Plane Guard. It was ihoped' that this would provide a period of relative calm compared with the around- the-clock firing on Naval Gunfire Support, however the first air strikes against the petroleum storage areas near Hanoi and Haiphong were close at hand and so the TAUSSIG increased her Condition of Readi- ness for the next assignment. .t.A 7 if Having taken the TAUSSIG through two tours of Naval Gunfire Support LT Berry, the Weapons Officer, casts one g final look at his shipmates before being transfered. SECOND DIVISION consists of Gunners Mates and Firecontrolmen and received several accolades for their outstanding performance during the ship's assign- ments of Naval Gunfire Support. Their maintenance of the ship's six five inch guns and fire control equipment proved essential to the successful accomplish- ment of all of the TAUSSIG's firing missions. Under the leadership of LTJG Jonovic and Chief Hundley, Second Division proved themselves worthy of the motto We Are Ready Now, Sir .
